is there one? I was looking , but didn't see it, unless I overlooked it! Just asking, because I'm going to try to go 4 months this time. I couldn't bare to do it last time. If I can make it 4 months, I'd like to try 5 months after that!

Is there anyone else out there that's trying to stretch out their relaxers?

I relax every 2 months. My hair is short and they say the shorter it is the sooner you have to relax. I've thought trying to stretch my relaxer to 3 months. Wish me luck!

I'm trying to go 12 weeks which I guess is 3 mths. My last relaxer touch-up was Sept. 26, 2003. I'm going into my 8th week right now.

Dang, four months, three months??? I thought stretching mine to 7 weeks was an accomplishment. I need more willpower. Well, Ballet Bun, if you start the challenge, I'll join. If there is already one, ya'll let me know. Cause I seriously need to learn to space out my touch ups.

ye me too, im stretching mine out to 4 months...its hard u have to be real careful, i just out cornrows and twists in my hair....my next perm will be near christmas and my last perm was in late August

next week will make 12 weeks for me and I was going to relax. I was also going to travel and was looking forward to all the "oohs" and "aahs" from my buddies. But since they're screwing with the plans I might as well wait till shortly before new years (17 weeks). Depends on if they really screw up, though

I'd like to join the challenge if there is one. I stretched my relaxer to four months last time and this time I'm thinking about extending it to five months. If so, my next touch up will be March 4, 2004.

I relax on average, every 14 weeks or so... I'm sure I could go to at least 16 weeks. I think what helps my 4a hair the most is using the S-Curl to keep the hair well moisturized as well as Profectiv root health. I also use Keracare Detangling/Moisturizing Shampoo, Keracare Humecto and alternate with Pantene Relaxed and Natural shampoo and conditioner. I don't wear my hair down and the hair is often pinned up with the ends tucked away. If I want to look a bit more "together" I'll do a bun or phonytail. The key is to keep both the ends and the roots moist.

Count me in! I usually wait 14 wks but I'll try to make it to 16 wks which is Jan 31st, 2004!

This wasn't a challenge, but it sounds like a lot of you want one, including me. LET*S START THEN! Seems like most of us are trying to or are willing to try and stretch out to 16 weeks!

RULES:
1. Try to stretch relaxer out to 16 weeks
2. Post monthly results(any breakage, what you are using to make your new growth more managable ... and so forth)
3. List when you last touch-up was

... Sound ok?

16 wks? Oh Lawd. Well Im in. My last touch up was Nov. 7 & 9 (did the half and half method). So my next touch up will be the first week of March 2004. Well, Im going to order my garlic shampoo right now! Good luck everybody.

i used to stretch eight months because i danced a lot and getting touch ups every 2 months or so was pointless to me cuz i was alwayz sweating and stuff. i always wore my hair in a loose ponytail or a bun and put gel on my edges. Man I swear i used to get about 8 inches of new growth a year because of all that excercise but of course I

at that thought because i didnt do conditioning washes after class so i guess thats why my hair stayed at bra strap length.

I think Im going to go 12 weeks!
That will be the first step at stretching for me! I used to go 6 weeks... then 8 weeks...so now Ill go 12. So Dec. 28 will be touch up time! Perfect so Ill look good on my New Year Extravaganza!!!!!!!!

I did mine yesterday after 8 months (my edges only) and 6months + a week (the rest of my hair). For next touch up, I'll do just 4 months. It was a learning experience and I didn't use braids, just washed 2ice a wk till it became unbearable. For the last month, I resorted to washing once a week, protein condition, deep condition, hot oil treatment, babied my ends with an updo and used an old tooth brush to smoothen the hair whenever it needed one (found my boar brittle brush to be too rough on my hair).
I have to note this testimonial: I found out that conditioning your relaxed hair with motions oil moisturizer protein conditioner after rinsing out your relaxer practically cancels the alkalinity brought about by the relaxer. My neutralizing shampoo gave just white suds when I rinsed out the conditioner and applied it. I'm so impressed.

I get a relaxer touch up every four months. However, this time it will be five months since my next one will be some time in January). This will be the longest stretch for me.

I thought I was stretching out with 2 and a half months. I would like to try this one, my last touch up was NOV.5, but I have a question, I was told if you wait too long for a relaxer then your hair will start to come out Is that true?

My last relaxer was about 6 weeks ago. I usually relax every 4, so 6 is an accomplishment for me!!

I plan on relaxing in about 5 weeks, (for a total time of 11 weeks..almost 3 months) for Christmas. Next time, I'll go for 3.5 or 4 months.

My last relaxer was Oct. 4. So that would mean if I were to join the challenge I would relax on Feb. 4, yikes. I'd be very "puffy" for Christmas, New Years and my birthday. Yikes!!! Okay well, my b-day is Jan. 28, which is only a week short of the 16 weeks. Oooh a relaxer full of new growth would be a SWEET birthday gift to myself!!!

Okay...I'm in!!! With some good products and determination I think I can make it. I've done it before.

Well let me give you my experience. I usually have to do a relaxer every 4-6 weeks. Because of this board and my conditioning washes, I lasted for 12 weeks. My new growth was so thick my beautician could not see my scalp.
shocked.gif
Now as my relaxer got older I started getting lazy and not putting my protective head wrap on. I also had to spend a few days in the hospital, so of course my ends were horrid!!!! However, once she put the relaxer she could not believe how straight it got. I had not been to her since the last relaxer so I lost 1 1/2 inch worth of dead ends, but I now think it is due to the medication. Basically keeping the new growth moisturized is the key.

My hair was becoming overprocessed. Also my hair is thin and I wanted to give it some time to rest and I am glad I did it.
smile.gif

okay but what if you get lots of breakage when u dont perm sooner
I ask this because Itried I think about everything to wait longer times between perms, but breakage was building up. so i had to choice between breakage or overprocessed. I permed my hair today (didnt over process) and the last time I permed was sept 20th
