Stretching a Relaxer for the duration of a pregnancy

I am currently 4 months pregnant and have not had a relaxer since I found out. I know that there is no danger in having relaxers while pregnant but DH has a bee in his bonnet about it and doesn't want me to do it. I have this decided to use this as an opportunity to do a massive stretch.

I am currently about 16 weeks post relaxer and my baby isn't due until June 14th which means the earliest I am likely to get a relaxer is sometime in July. I have stretched for 4 months at the most in the past and that was tough but worth it. I'm really just hoping for any advice or pointers from people who have done this in the past. I would love to just have someone put in cornrows, but those ladies are always snipping hairs randomly and they make me nervous. So I'm thinking about trying to get through it just using buns. Any help would be much appreciated.

i was stretching my relaxer when i was pregnant and my hair was in a bun all the time, let me tell you it is not easy, because when i was pregnant my hair was soooo thick, i would spend hours detangling and when it come to shampooing "OMGOSH". i few days before giving birth i PUT THE RELAXER. I would suggest you braid your haIR

You may want to do braid yourself or have a friend do them. THe few times I let "professionals" do my braid they snip randomly too and/or run a lighter up the lenght of the braid to burn away the frizziness. Once I saw them do that I stopped going!

Congratulations!! Would a BKT work? I know nothing about them so I'm just throwing that out there.

That is exactly what I'm afraid of with braods. It really bothers me how they just randomly snip and the burning is frightening. I'll just do them myself. I'm concerned that as I get bigger, I won't be able to do it due to being less agile:lol:

Congrats! I ceased relaxing through 3 pregnancies - I just got a press and curl every few weeks. Didnt wash my hair in-between, either  You know, old school!

Then let your DH bankroll your wash and sets at a salon!

Congrats!! I'm a stan for some good kinky twists... they would help you through your transition without much worry. I've never been pregnant, but I do hear that having an easy "already done" style is best, especially when it comes to the going-into-labor part. lol.

When I was pregnant and stretching...kinky twists, wigs, and braids got me through. It does get easier though. This is my third really long stretch (76 weeks post) and I haven't even braided my hair, worn wigs, none of that and I am still in there.

it takes pratice, but you could definitely make it your whole pregnany without relaxing.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I'm gonna do my best to see how far I can go, and then when it all gets too much I will throw some braids in!

Congrats! :)

I cut my hair off for my first pregnancy and stayed natural, so when I was pregnant a second time I was already natural. I did that for my third as well- Recut. I wigged it for my last :)

I would definitely try the braids, flat twist, braid outs, twist outs, :)

You have a safe pregnancy :)

Check out You tuber FGrogan. She did a 15 month stretch, with no problem:yep: She has various videos on how she stretches her relaxers. She has gorgeous hair.

I did it, and I was 4 weeks post when I found out and went another month after baby came. After about 5 months, I cut wash days down to every 3-4 weeks and I used the flat iron on air dried hair and sometimes a blowdyer. It's way more heat than I usually use, but it helped me stretch that long.

Congratulations!!! Stretched my relaxers too. Did alot of press and curls. Next time around, I plan on trying a caramel silk press my stylist told me about.
