So Wavy Baby
I am currently on my second stretch...My first one was 14 weeks, after which I vowed never to go that long again b/c of the pain of going thru the new growth to get to my scalp lol. Anyway I noticed with my last relaxer I lost some hair, I thought it was shedded hair from not combing but now I notice, I have a lot of random short strands thru out my entire head. I'm thinking my hair broke off at the Demarcation line. My hair is an inch shy of APL. I wear my hair cornrowed under a wig to avoid manipulation, i moisturize every other day with coconut oil. I wash my hair every two weeks b/c it easily tangles and my new growth is out of control. How can I keep my hair in tact?

Well, I'm not sure if I can help you but here's what I do.

I'm actually transitioning. I ONLY comb thru my hair in the shower with lots of conditioner. I oil my scalp nightly and there is some pulling and tugging b/c of the new growth. No matter how gentle I still get broken hair but really not that much. I guess I'm wondering now if you're getting a whole bunch or not. I'm getting very little even in the shower. I never comb through on dry hair.

Also, it seems to me that when you're dealing with 2 different textures you're bound to get a few broken hairs. If I'm wrong, someone PLEASE correct me.

Also, I heavily moisturize at night, tie my hair up and hope it stays on all night. In the morning, I just spritz, put some sulfur mix on my poor edges and go.

By the way, been meaning to tell you the baby is adorable. Makes me think of the ones that give the innocent look but are hell on wheels. :)

1. I love your Pooh Bear! How adorable!!!

2. As far as your hair, a balance of moisture and protein... low manipulation. With my hair I realized the key was NOT to stretch for too long if I couldn't maintain it. You have to play around and see what works and what doesn't. I needed a moisturizing spray and leave-in. I cowash and haven't used shampoo in a while. My hair has really turned around since I took it's care into my own hands.

You just have to listen to your hair. If something isn't working you may have to tweak it.

Oh my gosh we have the same exact dog!! Same color, We even put their hair in the same style!! too cute....what breed is it tho??? some people say shi itzu (sp?), some say a terrier mix???

Now back to hair....I got a lost a lot of hair. But they were long hairs, so I assumed shedding because I do not manipulate my hair at all. I was thinking about maybe doing a protein treatment. Do you guys think that will help?

1. Thanks, don't let the face fool u tho

2. Yeah I'm not gonna go for 14 weeks this time around, no more than 10 though. I think I may need to add some more protein. I pree poo with EVOO & Honey, when I wash I don't use shampoo..i use Cabellina (Dominican Conditioner). I DC evry 2 weeks with (Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle), and I add coconut oil evry other day. Does this seem like too much moisture??

I stretch for 6 months at a time. Im on my 3rd stretch for 6 months. I only comb my hair wet in the shower with conditioner in it. In between I moisturize my like of demarcation or I use my spray mix of Glycerine, rosewater, aloe vera juice salerm 21, moisturizing conditioner and rosemary oil. It works for me.

It is a must you keep the line of demarcation moisturized. Btw Co- washing helps a lot.

Same dog, huh?! That is too funny. I call Marisa a Shih Tzu mix b/c my friend has a purebred Shiz Tzu and Marisa and this other dog look almost identical. In fact, when people see her from a distance they think she's purebred but up close her nose is a dead giveaway b/c a purebred's nose sits in more and hers sticks out a little more.

On the hair, I know for me I definitely need a protein treatment. However, you said you don't do any manipulation. Could the line be thirsty and needs more attention than just every 2 weeks?

By the way, did you know you can get DNA tests for your dog to find out what they're made of? The cheapest one I found was $60. I've been planning to get one but have not gotten around to it. Would be funny if she really is a purebred and I've been calling her a mix this whole time.

I'm not familiar with those two conditioners at all or your hair, so I don't feel comfortable saying whether it is or isn't ya know? The prepoo sounds good... I sometimes add molasses to my mix. It helped with my breakage.

Before I started using WEN, I used Long Term Relationship by Herbal Essence for cowashing. It was the business. Kept my hair smelling great and moisturized. :yep: I use a rosewater/glycerin mix as a light moisturizer and seal with oil (castor, evoo, or coconut depending on what my hair needed). Coconut oil penetrates but I don't think that it counts as a moisturizer..... I hope some of the other ladies chime in on this one. :look:

Okay, I'm going to bust in with no hair business! Pooh Bear is too cute. When I first looked I thought he looked like he was in a jail because of the bars in the background and I was wondering..."where is Pooh Bear? Visiting someone in jail?" Then I stepped back and see, it's a grocery basket,LOL! Then I read on about the dog. That dog is so cute and I always look at her in the threads. I had a poodle that was the same color and had the same hair texture...hair texture, LOL! More like fur texture! I also had a Shih Tzu named muffin and yeah, Marisa's nose is a dead give away. Ok, carry on with the hair advice...

You can use the coconut oil to lubricate and seal but you need something that will keep your hair better moisturized.

do you guys have any suggestions for moisturizers? My hair gets really dry. And although I've been a member for quite some time I still have issues telling the difference btwn selants and moisturizers

ETA: isn't glycerine the stuff in s-curl. I thought it led to shedding??

I think everyone's hair reacts differently to different products, so it's a trial and error type thing. Some rave reviewed products have sucked for my hair, and some that supposedly sucked worked great.

I was on Traycee's site and saw in the past she used Silken Child's moisturizer. I picked some up and girllll it is the truth! I absolutely love it. It has some really good ingredients like Coconut Oil and Castor Oil so you might wanna try that out. I bought the leave in detangler as well. It also smells amazing. I think I'm sticking with these two products for awhile. I also use HE LTR leave-in as well for moisture. . .don't get me on the Cantu Shea Butter rave. . .I moisturize my ends only with that. It seems to prevent breakage :yep:
