Strengthening hair without protein?(Protein Sensitivity)

Maneylovee

This is not a trend....
For a while now I feel like my hair hasn't been the strongest it could be, especially my ends.

So a couple of months ago I tries Aphogee two step and it was horrible! It literally dreaded the back of my hair, my hair was so dry and tangled which resulted in a lot of hair breakage. Then I read that different proteins work differently so I tried a wheat protein conditioner that was a light protein treatment, and although not as bad; it did not cause severe matting or dreading it did tangle my hair really bad and made my hair somewhat fuse and web together which was very hard to detangle which resulted in a lot more breakage.

I have done these treatments on thoroughly detangled hair and I have had the same result.

I refuse to use any protein on my hair but I still want to strengthen my hair somehow. Is there anyway to do this or any product that does not contain protein?

Hmmm... you can try a black tea rinse. When I was doing them a few years ago it caused my hair to "firm up" (harden) a little bit but it was a lot easier to get it to soften up with conditioner than when I did a traditional protein treatment. When I co-washed it out, my hair soft and wasn't breaking. I forget the science behind this but there's info on it if you do a search.

I think you can use cassia (henna like but no real color change unless your hair is light colored)

People say that coconut oil is used for strengthening too. I've used it though and my hair doesn't like it... it makes it break off but a whole lot of people have found success with it.
