Does everyone here that is rlaxed stretch???
I did 8 weeks the last time. I not sure if ai can do it again:ohwell:

Correction I stretched 10 weeks, and it was very hard -- I dont think I can go that long this time.

im strecthing. and so far so good.
im TRYING to strecth until 9/11.. we'll see how that goes..

I've been doing the 12 -13 week stretches for 2.5 years. The key is to keep the new growth soft and keep your ends strong. I do this by condition washing daily and deep conditioning with light protien (LaKair Cholestorol Plus) weekly. A week before you relax be sure to use Porosity Control. This conditions and detangles extremely well and balances your hair's PH levels. If you are a 4a or 4b you must find low manipulation styles for the last few weeks or you will have breakage.

I have a hard time stylinging after about 6 weeks.
I want my hair to look good for work.

I not a big stretcher. My usual time was 9 to 11 weeks, but this past texlaxer I went for a little over 12 weeks and I seen so much growth. The key is to do low-mani styles, and never comb your NG unless it's wet fulled with conditioner. Around the 9 week mark I started to cut back on washing my hair only once a week, and wearing only braid-out, and up-dos. It can be done, but patiences is key.

Pre LHCF, I was always been 12 weeks. I am working my way back to that. My last stretch was 10, and the previous 6. I could have easily made 12 or more, but was going on vacation and the braiding was not an option . . . .

I'm 9 weeks post so far and I'm going to stretch for another 3 weeks...my stretch so far hasn't been bad because I have AO HSR by my side  (mixed with a little EVCO & distilled water)

My nornal stretch last year was 17 weeks. This year I decided to extend the stretch, (after falling in love with my new growth)! Now I'm 7 months post, and not even thinking about relaxing anytime too soon. I might be able to last a year!

I used to never be able to go beyond 7 wks. But I've been streching now for over 17 wks and co washing has really helped. Low mani styles are a must, I'm loving braidouts. At first I didn't think they would look good but I get lots of compliments on the style. I also find that this helps keep my roots from matting or tangling.

I stretch on average 4 mos or 16 wks. This last stretch was 5 mos. Mainly DC's, weekly to bi-weekly CW's, and PS help me a lot. I only detangle with conditioner on wash day, like Sylver2, so I may go a week without a comb touching my hair, but since I keep the NG oiled/moisturized it doesn't matt. When I get to the last month (4 mos. +) I start washing in 4 braids/twists. This enables me to really get at the NG with conditioner and my leave-ins, also makes it easier to detangle.

5-6 yrs. ago I couldn't conciously go more than about 7 to 8 wks unless my hair was braided (rarely) or I was sick or something. Just didn't have the patience or know-it-all to deal with the extra NG and not end up pulling my hair out from aggravation.

I have only stretched my perm once, but it was before I decided to start on my growth journey. I only did so because I was away for college and wanted to wait until I got home to have my regular stylist do it. I went for 7 months and it was very hard. I didn't wash and condition enough and had a lot of tangles. I was lucky I didn't have to cut hair OUT. My stylist warned me that if I ever came with it that bad or worse again, we might've had to. So I agree with **Sassy**, taking those steps will ensure your stretching process goes more smoothly.

I don't really notice any new growth until I'm about 9 weeks post. I don't really change anything in my regimen to deal with new growth. I just deep condition and rollerset from week 1 to week 12. I get about .5 inches per month.

Are you ladies who are experiencing problems with the new growth getting more than .5 inch per month?

I'm on a permanent stretch, not planning to relax again. AO HSR is my life saver for DC. I also dilute it with distilled water add a few drops of coconut oil and some shea butter and use as a moisturizer for buns and braidouts. I'm still feeling my way around in the dark when it comes to keeping my relaxed hair and NG happy all at once. I can't wait to BC but I've got about 9 months to go.
OP, stretch for as long as you can. If you start losing too many strands or experiencing breakage, then it's just time to relax, and there's abosolutely nothing wrong w/ that.:yep:

I am currently on a six mth stretch. My six months is on August 1st but plan to relax on the 15th. Prior to this stretch I relaxed every three months. The key is to find the right products and regimen. For me it was great deep conditioners, a rinse out for detangling, my steamer, a great leave in and then putting my hair in plaits. The result really soft new growth. There have been times when I thought: yuck! But it was also when I used a specific conditioner that I had never tried before that wasn't moisturizing, a leave in that dried out my hair or whenever I used protein and the follow up conditioner just wasn't good enough to add the moisture. The products made a difference for me.

I find that applying more conditioner helps my hair to be more manageable. Thus, allowing me to stretch longer.

I'm texlaxed and touchup every 13-15 weeks, which is 4 times a year. For 2010, I'm thinking about extending to 17 weeks or 3 times a year...I'm just trying to limit the chemicals as much as possible, short of going natural.
