Straightened Natural Hair: Just Raving about a few Hair Products & Tools...

Poohbear

Fearfully Wonderfully Made
Monday evening, I decided to straighten my natural hair again. I used the following products which my hair absolutely LOVES:

First, I shampooed my hair with Mane 'n Tail Shampoo. Leaves my hair feeling clean and strong...

After rinsing and detangling, I put my hair in 8 fat twists. Then I applied Mane 'n Tail Conditioner to each section before blowdrying with my new Andis 1875-watt Ionic Styler Dryer with a brush attachment. This is the first time ever using a brush attachment instead of the comb attachments, and it does WONDERS for my hair...

After all of my hair is completely blowdried, I applied Ultra Sheen Creme Satin Pres (which is a new product for me that I've never used before) and then straighten my hair with a Chi iron. I curled the ends with the flat-iron too after one pass...

All these products left my fine-stranded hair straight, black, and shiny...no frizziness, no puffiness!

Here's a pic... not very clear... I had taken this pic with my camera phone...

Looks great. Congratulations. When I saw Ultra Sheen I had to laugh though because I haven't seen that brand in a while. But really glad you found a set of products that worked for you.

I have the same blowdryer but I never thought about using the brush attachment. Poorbear your hair came out wonderful.

Looks great, but Ultra Sheen Satin Creme Press is not new, grew up with it, the packaging is different, though, unless they changed the formula, which I doubt.

No, I'm not saying it's a new product on the market... I'm saying it's a new product for me as in "first time ever trying it".

Your hair looks great. So the creme press didn't leave too much oil on your hair? That's my problem. Maybe I'm too heavy handed? :perplexed Anyway, your hair looks great!:yep:

That Ultra Sheen Satin Creme Press is the biznazz! My hair dresser used that on me back in the day and my flat-ironed styles always lasted.

Poohbear your hair look great and has really grown!

My hairdresser back in the day used to use that on my short relazed hair and then I continued when I started my HHJ. My styles always came out looking good. I may just have to add it back to my stash for when I straighten. (I'm on my way to tex-laxed tresses).

Beautiful results Poohbear! Thanks for sharing.

I've been waiting for someone else to use Satin Creme Press! I used to "fry" my hair with this when I was natural. My hair never looked as good as your though!

Congrats!!!

Fabulous Poohbear!!!

I bought an electric straightening comb and a tiny jar of Ultra sheen's Satin Press about 2 months ago and straightened my hair twice using both and also got wonderful, long lasting results that were extremely resistant to reversion without damaging my hair. In fact, the end result was better than using a flatiron.

Like you, I prepared my hair first w/good poo and condition but made it a point to use products that were created to reduce frizz and coat the hair in prep of straightening.

I may never use my flatiron again :lachen:

You did a great job and have beautiful results!!

Thanks! No, it didn't leave too much oil in my hair. I think you may have been too heavy handed. I just used a small amount on each section of hair. This product had a slightly different texture than regular ol' grease... It would melt on my fingers rather than be all smeared and sticky like grease.

Thank you! I'm glad the product worked for you too. I decided to try it after reading an old thread posted by Irisistible. But anyway, I've tried straightening my hair with an electric pressing comb and my hair doesn't stay straight with it no matter what I product use in my hair. But I sometimes still use my electric pressing comb if I need to touch-up the edges or roots that I missed with my flat-iron.

Your results are fantastic! You did a really nice job! :yep:

Quick question though, does having fine stranded hair mean that your hair straightens fairly easily? My hair, which is comprised mostly of medium sized strands, has always been resistant to straightening, even when relaxed, so I'm just curious as to whether or not it has to do with the size of my strands.

Though I'll admit that inexperience and poor technique might play a part in it as well! :look: :D

Thank you! To answer your question, no, fine-stranded hair doesn't mean that your hair straightens fairly easily. I would say looser curls or wavy hair texture would straighten easier than tightly coiled/kinky hair. I just mentioned that my hair is fine-stranded because when straightened, it doesn't look as thick as other naturals who straighten their hair. My hair is very resistant to heat. There have been times I have used the blowdryer, electric pressing comb, AND flat-iron and my hair was reverting within minutes. I have to use some type of thick/grease-like product to keep my hair straight.
