staying under the dryer for a long time for a deep conditioning

How do you do it? I hear some stay under for a hour! I can do fifteen minutes tops and its like torture. Is it on the highest setting or medium? Even with being under for rollersets i keep alternating high to medium and it looks like someone was sucking on my neck because it's soooo red. I even shorten it to 45 minutes now when I set my hair. I can't imagine deep conditioning for a hour and then getting under to rollerset for an hour! How do you do it?

What type of dryer are you using? I have a LCL standing dryer and steamer at home. I am at my mother's temporarily. I bought a gold and hot portable bonnet dryer for deep conditioning and steaming treatments to go. I start in high to get some heat or steam going and then turn it down to low. I have fabulous conditioning sessions and steaming times. It gets heavenly. If I get hot I might turn the hose differently or turn my head. Need I mention that I am lying down and watching a movie or something while doing this. This drive through deep conditioning method is working. You won't regret it. The bonnet may look funny but it is big and adjustable. :lick:

25 minutes is the maximum and thats only because I have LP hair. When I'm in a rush, 15 minutes is good enough. It either works or it doesn't.

I sit under my steamer for 30 minutes max. When I am sitting I will have my mac and will usually log on to LHCF or read blogs. The time usually passes quickly.

Ion bonnet hair dryer

I usually stay under for 30 minutes for conditioning, 1-2 hours for rollersets. Try keeping a damp towel around your neck next time.

Someone upthread mentioned how relaxing dryer time can be. I especially like it in the winter. I'll have a cup of cocoa and fall asleep. So maybe you have it too high for your tolerance. Or you could take your shirt off, have the A/C going, drink something icy... Some combination of this.
Home drying has never been uncomfortable for me, not even before I upgraded to my standing dryer, because it's so adjustable and customizable of an experience.
If your dryer is on high for the first 5-15 minutes you can usually maintain the temp with medium or even low depending on your model.
The only time I DC +30 minutes is if I fall asleep.
And the only time I rollerset for +90 minutes is if I fall asleep. Lol. Falling asleep has never put me under for more than 15-20 minutes extra though because I have a timer.

At min I do an hr. I usually strip down to tank top and undies so I'm not sweating up a storm and ill either do work, read, or watch tv. During summer I might lower the ac some.

I use my bonnet hair dryer to deep condition my hair for 30 mins. I do this about every 1 or two weeks. It makes my hair feel amazing. Much better than when I would leave my dc treatments on for hours. Now in 30 mins. I'm done.

I use the setting hot, and low- it only has two settings. The time goes quickly because I read while under the dryer. Since its a bonnet dryer the heat flow does not reach my neck or ears. Overall it's relaxing.

I can't! When I would go to a family friend for wash and sets I'd be in pain. Literally I'd slowly slide further down into the seat to avoid the heat. I'd leave with partially wet hair sometimes. But I'm thinking of buying a standing dryer for home. I think the good ones circulate the heat in a way that it doesn't concentrate on one spot for too long. Does anyone have a recommendation for a standing dryer like that?

I find it relaxing. I spend my time on here while im under the dryer. Or I daydream. Window shop online for hair products. The time goes by super fast for me

I think a lot of LHCFers swear by the Pibbs.
I've had a Babyliss Pro Thermal Ionic for about 4 years and I love it. It has 3 heat settings and an ionic function that can be turned on/off and came with an extra filter.

I use a heat cap. I prefer it better to the dryer, it feels like it holds the heat. I can easily sit under it for a while.

I have a cap dryer and I can sit anywhere with that thing on. It's like wearing a shower cap. I can work with that for a while. The hard ones I just can't .

Deep COn under a plastic cap all day, noproblem... Under a dryer, I get to antsy to max is like 15-20, maybe even 30, All I am thinking about at that point it finishing hair... Lol

I have the ionic button as well that you can turn off or on. The ion dryer from sally's

amii, I would recommend a Pibbs but there are other good comparable hooded dryers available. However, I own the Pibbs and it has made my life so much better. I purchased mine from Amazon.

Lilmama1011 I use too and it wasn't fun. I now use a steamer, hot head or heat therapy wrap (30 mins max). My norm is 15 mins though. I used the dryer on medium setting back in the day when deep conditioning with it. I put a towel around my neck and ear covers on my ears when roller setting. I sit under medium heat for 1hr.

Have you tried a hooded dryer or steamer? When I used the bonnet dryer I absolutely hated DCin, and would cut all sessions short. I prefer my steamer above all, I could steam all day. When I'm under the hooded dryer or steamer I have a towel around my neck and headband over my ears to protect them.

I'm going to get a steamer, I wanted to get the huetiful but I heard it doesn't last long, does it? Like it breaks down in a year...

But for right now I keep my dryer on medium, I have heard people complain their dryer isn't hot enough, I have a golden hot one back home and that was hot too, I never ran into one that wasnt

For me anything over 15 minutes is overkill and it looks/feel better with 15 minutes than slathering conditioner on my head and letting it sit all day.

I have a RED 1875 hooded dryer. When I roll my BSL (starting to scratch MBL) hair up correctly it can dry in 45 minutes. I remember sitting other lower dryers for much longer when my hair was in a Halle cut. The quality of the dryer makes all the difference. I'd love to get a Pibbs one day but for now my little Red is working. ** I'm relaxed if that makes a difference.

edit to add: I have heard that about huetiful steamers. Don't go by all the initial gushy youtube reviews - look for those that are dated more recently for the follow up real talk update.

Usually anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on what I'm doing. If I'm just sitting there than less time but if I'm browsing the net then about 30 minutes.. But I usually sit around the house for much longer like for hours.

20 minutes max!! I hate sitting under the dryer!

What I do is sit for 20 minutes alternating between med and high with a plastic cap. Then I get out and put a skullie hat on right away to trap the heat. Sometimes I put a bonnet on then the hat. I might let this sit for an hour or more or overnight depending on what I have to do.

When I roller set (rare) i try to sit for 30 mins then let the rollers stay in till I air dry. Im high po so it doesn't take long at all.
