I been reading a few things from the this site and hopefully I will be able to grow my hair back out after I let the beautician cut it way to short. There has been growht since she has cut it, but there has been more breakage. Right now the main line of product I use is Dr. Miracle's. I use the medicated treatment for damage hair, spot oil treatment, gro oil, and the regular relaxer only for touch-ups about every two months or so. For my moisturizer I use pink oil by Lusters, and I also use Carrot oil. I have just started using the baggie method that I learned about on here and from my Friend. I have order M-T-G to help with the growth. Another type of oil I use for my hair and scalp is called wild growth. Please check out my pics I am open to all and any help. Thank You.

Hey Girl!!

I think the first step for you is to probably figure out a good regime that works for you. Because what works for some people does not necessarily work for others. I also think that protective styles along with the baggy will be good for you for a few months. The baggy really works. Maybe some braids, wigs.....just any style where you can just leave it alone for at least a month or two at a time. Just to give your hair a break try to stretch your relaxer as far as you can. When you do relax make sure you just relax the new growth and not the entire strand. That is what causes alot of breakage. How have your products been thus far? Oh try some QP Elasta Mango Butter. I love that stuff. It keeps your hair moisturized. Well that's all I can think of at the moment and I hope that was helpful. Happy Growing!!!! Bye Girl!!:)

TroubleHair, I'm in the same boat as you, I need all the help I can get with my hair. I recently got all my hair cut off and I'm starting over. I've read a lot of threads and took a lot of notes. I'm now finding a regime that doesn't require a lot of products and works for my hair.

Simone, My bestest friend......:D

I am so happy you are ready to travel this hair journey.
*** WARNING*** This site is addictive.
I think I have already given you the best advice that I have learned and used from this site but in case you forgot which i know you did:

1. Use a water based moisturizer such as S Curl (spray on hair not scalp)
2. Seal ends with a oil such as Olive Oil or castor oil (there are plenty of others)
3. Co wash and deep condition weekly (Most people on here like Suave brands for co washing) Not sure about a brand for deep con yet
4. Do the baggie. ( There are plenty of success stories on here)
5. No heat!
6.Use shampoo's that are not harsh. (I cant think of the harsh ingredients now but I will email u it lata if I ever get my work done today! )
7. Stop using those bandannas to wrap your head up at night! (I know you are still using them.)
8. Protective style it girl. ( some wear buns, like Granny Jessica (Jejora) (Hi Jessie!), some wear braids or weaves. Just make sure you moisture, moisture...and use a lil protein. I like Infusium but I havent heard too many people using that. It's very important we moisturize over here in Iraq and Afgha...today it is 128 in the SUN and heat category 5!! Girl I am roasting over here!
9. I am happy u took my advice on the MTG... That's some stinky shyat but its working!! I am tired of these flies chasing me around... LOL!:lachen:
10. Last thing I hate grease and I will not use it!

...I hope that helps...but remember different things work for different people. Its best you learn what your hair likes and dislikes and run with it! Good luck girl on ya journey!

Southern Russet... I just looked at your Fotki.... You had some good length b/f you cut your hair but your hair still looks good! Since you cut all that good hair off girl....I think you should try the natural thing. But whatever you decided to do I wish you the best of luck! :)

i'll cosign on protective styles, less heat and relaxer stretching... also, try not to overload your hair with too many products... i also swear by daily cowashing, but that's not for everyone - but i'm thinking if you're over there, then it might help you tremendously when it comes to retaining moisture.....

HTH!!

Hi there and welcome to the forum!:) I see that the ladies have given great advice already. I just wanted to add a few more things, as well.
First, I think your hair type is probably 4b as opposed to 2a. You need to find a really good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. There are too many to name, but look for something that is definitely moisturizing.

Honestly, I haven't heard a single good thing about any of Dr. Miracle's products. And the Pink Oil Moisturizer that you're using--I would find something else to use. All it did was sit on my hair and made it crunchy back in the day when I used it before learning how to properly care for my hair. Find a good moisturizer, and be sure to seal with some type of oil after you've moisturized.

So, with that being said, start off by washing at least once a week. Be sure to deep-condition for at least 20-30 minutes with heat following your wash. If you're blow-drying, stop immediately, because at this point, it will add fuel to the fire. With the right products and TLC, your hair will be up to par in no time.:)

Welcome to the forum:wave:!

Anyhow, the advice offered thus far has been great. The stickies at the top of the forum are extremely helpful. Have you been deep conditioning? If so, how often? How often do you wash your hair? I would start off washing and deep conditioning at least once a week. Now to figure out how to go about deep conditioning, I strongly recommend you check the following thread Hair breakage 101 http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=84746.

I also co-sign the protective styling. If you decide to go the braiding or weaving route you should consider doing the crown and glory regimen/technique. It is very simple, healthy and it has personally helped me as well as other people on this forum. The following link is the website where you'll learn more about the crown and glory technique and learn more about black hair care.

Anyhow, good luck, take your time and have fun:)!

Hi Trouble. Welcome to LHCF. Girl, you have come to the right place. You will find some of the most knowledgeable women here.

Firstly, Dr. Miracle's was the first prod I started off with. The tingly shampoo and the medicated conditioner treatment are probably the only prods I really have any good to say about. Then after reading tons of info, I phased it out of my regimen, and further tweaked my regimen, and I still doing so 'till this very day. Please try to find a better moisturizer. Luster Pink Lotion is a big no no, just my opinion.

All of this info is better broken down in the newbie sticky I am sure but here is a quick basics (just basics, I am sure there are some things I am not going to mention):

You will need a:
1) Shampoo (a moisturizing shampoo and/or a detangling shampoo)
2) Clarifying Shampoo (when your scalp and hair has product buildup)
3) Conditioner
4) Deep conditioning treatments: (alternate with moisturizing treatment and protein treatments)
5) Leave-In Conditioner (after you rinse out conditioner)
6) Moisturizer (for daily use)
7) Oil (to seal in the moisturizer)

Be careful with shampoos because they can be drying and strip our hair of moisture. Shampoo your scalp only. Go to www.growafrolonghair.com, she has a great method called the Crown and Glory method where she explains the proper way to shampoo.

Many of us do pre-shampoo conditioning treatments: apply oil, conditioner, cholesterol, honey, coconut milk, and different concoctions to protect the strands, prior to shampooing. By pre-pooing, you are adding a protective layer or coating, from the harsh detergents of the shampoo. (Clarify your scalp only when you feel build-up on your scalp: white flakes or if your hair feels weighed down.)

Conditioner is for the rest of the hair and not for the scalp. Concentrate on hair and ends when you condition. Many women do conditioner-washes (aka co-washes). This hydrates your hair and still provides a clean rinse... w/o using harsh shampoo. Many will shampoo maybe once a week or less frequently, and do a co-wash instead during the mid-week or every other day every two days...

Deep-condition (DC) your hair at least once a week, or more if it is damaged, or if you feel your hair thrives well when you do so. Some sit under the dryer when they DC, so the conditioner treatment can penetrate the stands. Or you can put a warm towel on your plastic cap. There are moisture DCs and protein DCs. Moisture=hydration. Protein=fortification/strengthening.

After you rinse out the DC, apply a moisturizer. Remember there are moisture-based and protein-based moisturizers. SistaSlick had a great article breaking down the benefits of maintaining the moisture and protein balance in our hair. I will search it and post it here. Use an oil to seal in the moisturizers. Look around the boards for different product choices(the search function should direct you to archive threads on all sorts of info) . PM me, or any of the gals, if you have any further questions. Good luck. :)

Thanks Tiffany;) I need all the luck I can get. I'm going to try the natural thang. I'm in Germany the next two years so my goal is to have a head full of natural hair when I leave.

Thanks everyone else who has contributed to this thread. With all the helpful info I will be able to maintain my own hair and give my beautician more insight on my goals for my hair.

I would warn against luster's pink oil moisturizer. My hairdresser told me a while ago to throw it away because it actually blocks moisture from reaching your hair strands.
