Starting My Hair Care Journey...For Real This Time!

So I've been a member of this site for well over a year now and I've decided to get serious about growing my hair. I've been over on this board a few times with specific problems, etc., but I hadn't really commited myself a regimen or anything.

Everytime I get a new wig or style, I'm like, man- my hair would look so nice at this length and I really want to try to make it happen.

Does anyone have a suggestions for a starting point? Maybe a specific challenge that people have found helpful.

TIA!

Yeah, MzLady!

I still consider myself a newbie, so I don't know if I have any real advice to give. I'm wondering, though - what do you do already to help your hair?

MzLady!! :spank: What have you been doing all this time besides hanging out in OT with me? It took me a while to actually get a regimen going too. If I'm not mistaken, there is a thread with just people's regimens on here. I'm not sure what it's called though. Maybe that's a starting point for you. What are you doing so far?

Umm, hanging out in ENT, LOL.

I mean I read over here all time, but I just didn't really have the patience to try to actively work on my hair.

But I really want to one be able to rock a wig or clips in just cause I need variety and not because I need some length.

I'm with you on this. I have been here since 2003 and I am just now getting serious with my hair. Maybe we can encourge each other. What are your goals right now

Umm, nothing, LOL.

I wash it it when I need to, that's pretty much it.

I definitely don't moisturize as much as I should but I'm gonna work on that. I actually used some NTM Silk Touch Leave in and JBCO this weekend and my hair felt great!

Hey LadyR!

That would be cool! We could be no so new newbie buddies, LOL.

I guess right now my goal is healthy APL (even though I'm not even at shoulder yet )

My hair grows pretty well with braids on and off, but they are KILLING my hair line. I think I might benefit more from styles that force me to pay attention to my real hair. With the braids I tend to be too lazy.

Yeah, you might need to try out some other styles then hun. What do you like?

ETA: I need to find some new styles myself. I've found that once I started wearing my hair out this summer that I wasn't really feeling the weaves anymore. I haven't had a weave since June. And the last 2 I did myself. Last time I went to the salon for one, was my bday hair (March 3) and the woman was extra rough with my hair so that might be why I never went back. I'm thinking about getting one in the near future though since it's getting cool out and I don't wanna wash and go in the cool air. Either that or some braids but IDK how I'm gonna do with those. :ohwell:

I like that, I'm a no so new newbie. My goal is also APL and right now my back is touching my shoulder and my sides are between my ears and chin. My problem is my crown. I am wearing phonybuns and phonytails with the phonytails up like a bun.

Newbie as well. I've singed up for the boot cam challenge..I think it's a good start. Congrats on comitting to your hair goals! Oh one more thing!!
Besides this forum http://healthytextures.typepad.com/ is a great place to go and make sure you keep a hair journal! Good luck!
I agree, the Bootcamp challenge is good. Also, since you like wearing wigs, maybe you'd do well with the Wig challenge? I do wigs, even though I'm getting tired of 'em. But I keep my hair braided down underneath. To save my edges, I make sure I have the braids set back about an inch away from my hairline. I still deep condition and trim and whatnot though. Right now I'm doing it weekly, but as the weather gets colder I'll be wearing smaller cornrows underneath so they'll last longer.

I thought you were on it all this time!!! First things first.........get a Fotki to document your progress!!!:p

She do???? Where is it??? I was just trying to kill some time since I don't really feel like elaborating but you be sure to step in anytime!!!

She must have taken it down but she has it. I've viewed it several times.:lachen:

I believe MzL knows her hair type and what her problem areas are?

Maybe you need to spend a little time over her in the HCT and PRD sub-forum (said with love). I think the hide your hair chan would be good since you are already doing that. But you need to figure out what your hair likes so that you can know what to do to maintain and care for your length.

I think if your braided your hair and moisturized it daily that would help. I know you have a problem with the front so maybe you could loosely braid the front.

Just throwing somethings out there. Let me know when to shut up.

Girl, I don't know what I wanna do, LOL.

I get bored real fast with braids. I can't do weaves myself yet and I don't wanna keep paying to get it done.

Cool!

Are you baggying underneath? If so, what are you using?

I'll definitely check out the bootcamp challenge.

I've come across a few different wigs that I like recently. I especially like the ones that double as a phony pony.

Decisions, decisions. LOL.
