ok im starting fresh in 09 with a new regimen. prior to joining the 09 bootcamp i wanted to stop flat ironing. Ive been natural my entire life but havent really worn my natural texture since elementary school; and even then it was the standard 2 ponytails. I keep seeing all these different lines of product but dont know where to start. Carols daughter seems ok but so does qhemet but again i dont know where to start. it seems i was mid back when i started high school and all my mom or me did was wash it every week or so and deep condition press it out then african pride grease and that was it lol.. do i really need so much product? i have bout a 200.00 limit to spend and plan on making my purchases this weekend any advice is greatly appreciated. you can view my fotki for my natural texture fotki.com/mzmia

I don't have any ideas really. There are so many lines to choose from it really is trial and error. Just b/c someone has the same hair type as you still doesn't mean the same products will work b/c there can be many more variants in the hair besides type.

Since you mentioned Carol's Daughter maybe that is a good brand to start from. Just do an advanced search of the boards for Carol's Daughter info., see which products get raves - and go from there.

HTH.

ITA with the above. I have been natural for just over a year and have used many products. Honestly, S-curl and castor/olive/or coconut oils are my favs. As far as shampoo's and conditioners, I KISS. VO5 con's are fine with me, and I DC with DPR-11. So far so good:yep: I am contemplating buying the Qhmet(sp) moisturizer. If you are looking for a hair care line this one seems to get rave reviews by many naturals on this board. Good luck.

ummmmmm. Well I'm not natural, but I have tried Natural hair products, I love HairVeda, and I was told Shescentit.com has a good line. In my opinion, I think you should find someone with your hair type and use the products they use or talk to them about what they use, sometimes you have to do the trial and error period, and 200 dollars is a lot so I understand you don't want to spend money on hair products you are not going to use. I use Paul Mitchell, Bed Head, NTM, and ION, have you hear of Paul Brown Hawaii?

I think you should start off simple. In any regimen you need to cleanse, condition, and moisturize. I'd start with products that have worked in the past and go from there. Don't try everything at once or get complicated too soon because then you won't know what's working.

How are you planning to wear your hair? That will influence your product choices as well. Take some time and figure out what you want your regimen to look like, research, and then choose products for each step. Don't forget to give them time to work!

i wanted to wear it curly regardless of down or in a bun im ready to embrace my hair in its natural state but not sure how to define the curls?

Start small. Don't blow the whole $200 right away. My suggestion start with simple things and then add more. Like coconut oil, sweet almond oil, EVOO, castor oils, and others (google oils & essential oils). Things you can easily obtain. This way you get an idea of how & which natural oils work without spending a ton of money. Then continue to do research as you go along. Maybe even try the Aubrey Organics line since its natural and it won't break the bank. Get a shampoo and 2 conditioners. Start small, and research, research, research!
