Damaged but not out

Well-Known Member
I've never had one...

Or do you think i've just never seen them. I've had breakage, but just that no further damage to the remaining strand. No stylist ever commented on seeing any.
Was just wondering if anyone else can co-sign?

if you've never had any, your extremely lucky and rare. But i do believe that some people just dont get them as often as others. You just may be blessed with split free hair. or maybe you have really good hair practices that keeps your hair healthy and split free.

I think if your hair is coated or styled, it may be hard to see them because they can appear hidden or "sealed". If i blow my hair out with no product, i can see them very clear. Also, sometimes stylist dont pay a lot of attention to them either, at least the ones i went to hadn't. I remember going last year to get a trim and i asked the lady to get rid of all the split ends. She cut my hair, it was even, but the next day when i washed my hair, i noticed many, many splits all over (which lead to me doing a self trim, thus halting some progress..... but thats another story)

I don't think it's possible to be split-end free. I think some people get more of them than others, but splits are not easy to see, especially if you have fine hair. If you dust regularly, then they may be too few to stand out. Otherwise I do think products that coat hair (like serums) can help minimize their appearance.

HoneyBuns experience of seeing split even after a trim is not unusual. If you can think of a fraying material, you can cut off the frayed part but after a while, the new neat edge will start fraying too. One way people think they have split ends is when the ends look thin. Usually that's way after the splits have torn off so looking at ends then may not reveal the damage unless you do it at a microscopic level.

There are ways to minimize the appearance/existence of split ends: sealing, protective styling, regular dusting all come to mind.

I think you've had a few but haven't seen them. I've been able to greatly reduce them but they're still around.

I don't get splits either. I get single strand knots and broken hairs but not splits. But I'm definitely not complaining about that.

You know I was wondering this too the other day. I used to think I had split ends because my ends were jacked but I was examining my hair and I didn't have any, I just have janky ends that like to wrap around each other and cause single strand knots. Lol I don't think I even have enough cuticle layers for them to split.

I don't see it either. I keep looking to see if I have splits ends but haven't notice it. It must be there but the areas I can reach and search they are not in that batch.

I used to get them all the time until I started moisturizing and sealing my ends with castor oil. Implementing these steps have virtually eliminated them. Now I just need to find a resolution to SSK and crinkly ends that wrap around themselves.
