Hi Ladies,

I know that wearing the donut is a great protective style but the last time wore the donut (about 2 years ago) I had the absolute WORST split ends. I vowed to my hair that I would never wear one again because I lost several inches and was really traumatized and heartbroken.

Is there any way to combat this because the donut is really a hair saver if you can get past the split ends!

Instead of the foam donut, why don't you use a silk or satin scrunchie as filler? It accomplishes the same results, but without having the foam suck up all the moisture from your hair. Another thing which I have seen suggested here, is to sew satin cloth around your foam donut--DSD has a demo where she put weft hair around hers on her website, I think. Give these things a try. HTH.

Yes, the foam donut is a hair saver. I wear mine on a regular basis. I have never had problems with splits.

What I do is cover the foam donut with braid hair to act as a filler and a barrier so the moisture won't get sucked out of my hair!! I have instructions in my album.

Also before putting your hair up it is a good idea to coat your ends with oils or your favorite moisturizer. This will help combat the dryness.

My dillema is, I have the length but to me the scrunchies aren't firm enough to make the donut. The foam donuts are excellent, I was experimenting a few months ago with a pack of hair and weave glue. I tried to wrap the hair around the foam and glue it but that was a big mess! I even tried to glue a satin scarf... another mess! I'll see if I can find a satin or pair of nylon socks.

There has gotta be another way!...

I used a foam donut this weekend and liked it alot. I was thinking next time I will probably wrap a piece of satin around it to protect my hair. Maybe you can do that to protect your ends? :yep:
