Spinoff: Why do you hide your face?

For those of us ladies who edit our pictures of fotki's to hide our identities, or otherwise lurk, or provide no pictures, what is your motivation in hiding?

I am definitely not judging, I know the Internet can still seem a scary place for many, but I think we shouldn't have an extreme problem with showing who we are?

Well, have you ever seen the picture of a random asian boy that was then turned into several embarrassing pics? They even put his head on a dancing stripper, lol. That's my motivation for keeping my identity private.

I hide my face because there is not even one good reason for me to show it, i just don't see the point for myself to do this.

Too many weird people out there, not saying here on this board. But the point of me showing my hair progress is to focus on the hair not me. I have had in the past have some unusual people obsessed with me.

It's a hair board. All anybody needs or should want to see is my hair.

Have to chuckle a little bit at this, because I've been on the internet a looooong time and have had some bad experiences. So have family members. Better a little paranoid than to turn up photoshopped onto "Nappy Head Grannies Gone Wild" or some such. There are some weird folks out there.

Just my opinion. I've wondered if some of our members are public figures who are trying to maintain some privacy. "City Councilwoman Jenkins wears a baggy under her phony pony!"

People have gotten mad at other people and then have taken their photo from here and/or their online photo album and posted said picture on porno sights!  H to the N for real!

See, I actually have the opposite inquiry - I am surprised that so many people put pictures of themselves and their kids online. While I love to see you guys and your babies, I know that I'm not some kind of pervert or killer . . . other folks, I ain't so sure about. You just never know who's out there looking . . . especially since you can see siggys and whatnot even if only a lurker.

As for the original question, I post a lot of sensitive information here (as well as on my blog). So, I want to control my real life identity as much as I can. Hence the cartoonish icon, face-less hair shots, etc.

Yea, I have as well. I remember a Black Planet page was made about this girl... and there have been other things.

As for the public figures in hiding, LMAO... that might definitely be a possiblity. :lachen:Imagine if we found out Condoleeza Rice were here.

Yea, I've heard. Thank God, I haven't been one of those folks, to my knowledge. :look:

I agree. I am also very private and it makes me uneasy knowing that I don't have control over who is seeing my pictures (esp of my face) at any time. We have no idea who else is reading this board along with us or looking at our fotki albums. Heck, I lurked on this board for almost 2 years and looked through people's albums, so who's to say there aren't hundreds more doing the same.

I've mentioned this before and I think it's worth repeating. PLEASE remember that fotki is not just a hair album website. I have conducted searches on google and found member's fotki albums in the search results.

You're too funny!!! :lachen::lachen::lachen: But you're right. One can't ever be too careful. However, I do show my face in my avatar because the way it's cropped limits it being used on other sites. Otherwise, I'd definitely distort my face. :yep:

1. I had a bad experience back in 2002 when a guy from BP stalked me. I had no idea who he was because he didn't have a picture on his page. He would send me weird notes to my page talking about he liked what I wore to class, he knew where I worked on campus and what kind of care I drove, that he saw me in clubs and at the library. Eventually, my friend found out who the guy was and his information so I could get a PPO and report him to campus police. So now I'm just programmed to no post pictures of myself on mb's or other social sites.

2. It's hair board so hence only hair pic's. I have nothing against others who show their faces.

3. It's the internet...others can read/see the site to a certain extent. I don't want some random person (beside's my many Niko's cousins) coming up to me saying yeah I've seen you on that hair website.

I may put a picture of myself in my profile since only members can view profiles just to play it safe. :look:

Wow at Number 1. Was he prosecuted? Is he serving time somewhere safely? I hate and do not respond to anonymous posters and lurkers who are on other sites and are asking too many questions. And despite my Yahoo being displayed, it's set so that unless I add you, I cannot receive your messages. :nono:

OP I can imagine someone doing something really crazy with your pic....

I'm just saying...you might want to think about it :yep:

Hmmm...my album is currently open with no password, but I'm thinking about locking it after reading some of these stories.

If Condoleeza Rice is here.....................she has not been paying attention!! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

I have a fotki. I've had my pictures posted on fotki, LHCF, etc. for a while. It may be too late to lock it now. If someone wanted to do something with my pictures, they probably would have already done it by now. Maybe I should have thought about crossing out my face before starting a fotki :perplexed.

You're right. I've had my pics stolen, and all other kinds fo craziness before. However, if you Google my name, you will find my name all over the place. Everytime someone has faked being me they've been caught. Too many people know me, and I'm nothing to copy anyway! :lachen:

You're very pretty!
I am just a very private person thats why i dont show my face. I have thought about it though but always talk myself out of it.
My sis is the exact opposite though.

Very true. I noticed the same thing, so I changed all of my privacy settings. You can opt out of fotki and other search engines, and not have your pics included in their random images. There are some very strange and/or crazy people on fotki.com... just do a search and you'll see what I mean. I'm there for photo sharing, so I don't want any freaks contacting me.

How do you do that?

^^^You can select "my settings" under the "go to" button while logged on to fotki. I believe that will show you all of your settings, so you can change them. It's called "privacy options."
