Interesting OP. I know that of all of my great-grandmother's sons, the ones who had daughters, their daughters have extremely thick long hair (ie. my mother). The daughters who had daughters, their daughters have thin, brittle short hair.

I just told this to my mother and it seems to be true in my case. I have the thickness and length of my maternal grandfather's side and the texture of my paternal grandmother's side.

Oh, the vid that helped me (that I can't locate) was this African lady who was teaching what real shea butter is and should look like. Imagine my dismay when I realized the yellow stuff at the BSS was not real shea butter but the butter of some other plant. I was grateful though.

Here's her youtube channel: YouTube - kimmaytube's Channel

A wealth of information indeed. I started at the very first video and simply worked my way through them all!! I learned sooo much!!

YouTube - ♡♡♡Structure of Hair - Part 1 The Basics
I knew a lot of what kimmaytube was saying from Np and other sites/ppl/blogs/research, but it's how she PRESENTS the information that I applaud her on! She takes the time to dispel myths and present the facts in an easy to understand manner! For that, she gets my vote!
