While I find comments with an axe to grind (in either direction) distracting and annoying I am definitely grateful for this thread and the accounts of people who have experienced it first hand. I've been considering trying it (probably softliss) just because I feel like I'm on the cusp of a period of boredom. I think perhaps my natural hair is waaay more exciting in warmer months (i live in CT and it holds water like crazy.)

I'm definitely trying to read as much as possible to find out what the common factor is when it comes to successes and failures. I'd definitely skip the first blowdry (actually you couldn't ever pay me to do that, relaxed or natural) and do the whole intense deep conditioning thing prior, for starters. Desirae's comment about putting a seal over really dry hair has definitely made me think..

But I think it is reaally apparent that the BKT can no more be considered a 'magic bullet' than a relaxer or any other chemical service.

I'll be doing more research.

I've gotten BKT once, in February of this year (at a salon) and I LOVE IT! I have fine to medium hair, 100% natural. It has reverted a lot, but it hasn't completely worn off. My curls are still slightly looser. I may just get it done once a year. I haven't had any breakage. When I got it done, it was so shiny and silky. Ah, I can't wait until I get another treatment next year.

BTW, I work out 3-4 times a week and my hair didn't frizz as much.

As soon as I figure out how to do so, I'll post pics. Sorry, I'm a newbie.

I just got my BKT and I love it!!!! My hair feels very silky and I air dry today and it looks fabulous. I think that as with every product what works for some may not work for others. It's hit or miss I guess. I will say this.... I would NEVER do it my self. Had I not gotten it done at a salon I wouldn't have known that you actually have to pass the flat iron until the hair begins to feel silky, which for me was 7 times, not 5. My hair would feel brittle before it was flat ironed properly. It needs to be done by someone who knows exactly what they are doing for optimal results. Similar to a relaxer. My hair didn't break with a relaxer until I had it done by someone who did not know how to do it properly. Knowledge and skill is key. I think some ladies on here have mastered it and thats great but I will leave it to the professionals.

Hi Ladies, I think I've been more than vocal but I'll say it here so that anyone new to BKT has my super fine haired, natural 4a/b view.

I really enjoy what BKT adds to my hair from a straightening/smoothing, management and strengthening point of view. I really don't see any reason to stop, ever. I can get my hair smooth and frizz free with a roller set and silk wrap as seen here, I can get my hair silky and pin straight with a flat iron as seen in my siggy, my ends have been easier to retain despite the heat involved in application as can be seen in my fotki here.

It's funny that I'm so crazy about BKT as the thing that makes me most excited is how straight I can get my hair without direct heat and with relative ease. The funny thing is, I don't even wear my hair straight yet! and won't bother to until I reach full BSL or so. That being said, even though my hair is curly 98% of the time, right now, I :heart2: that it's so easy to detangle my hair without damage or breakage. I love that single strand knots are a thing of the past. I lost a couple inches to those buggers from no heat styling and caring for my natural hair before I tried BKT.

I've actually stopped recommending that people try BKT. Invariably, there will be bad experiences and I don't want any parts of harming a single hair on another lhcf sister's head. If someone asks me, I'm happy to share my experience and what has worked for me in regards to BKT. I love it, but I know that everyone will not. I'm sorry for all those that have had trouble. I truly believe if we had time to troubleshoot it down we'd be able to figure out what went wrong in each situation.

I know there was a comment made earlier about how many of the women who've had the best results have been natural. I'd like to point out that Princessnad, Veejee, Fabulosity and AtlantaJJ have all loved their long term results; all texlaxed. I'm certain there are many more; those are just a few faves off the top of my head.

Have you tried ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo? It's chelating and is used to remove calcium deposits from hair relaxed with no-lye perms. If I ever get sick of BKT (I won't..lol) this strips it right out of my hair and the waves and curls emerge.

No I haven't tried this yet. I may give it a try.
