Spinoff: Good ideas for first-dates?

^^^^ I like LadyLibra's ideas.

Also,

Something where you have to make or DO something is really helpful in deflecting awkwardness and pregnant silences and boring "sooo, this is my life up 'till now" talks.

For example:

--pumpkin carving or hunting
-- volunteer community activities like painting a mural in a revitalizing neighborhood
-- an interactive museum like the Spy Museum in D.C. which send you on a scavenger hunt"

  • Zoo
  • Conservatory or greenhouse
  • A one-day class (wine tasting, how to throw pots, origami, etc.)
  • Cultural Festival
  • Art gallery showing (museum or private house)
  • Roller skating or ice skating
  • Amusement park
  • A hike to a scenic place
  • Dave & Buster's, ESPN zone
  • A trip to an observatory
  • Fun eating (Japanese shabu-shabu, Korean bbq, Ethiopian, i.e. foods that encourage sharing)
  • Unusual historical landmark (old lighthouse, haunted house, place where X was discovered)

Coffee/Tea at a cafe
Hookah Bar/Lounge
Any wineries near you? A wine tasting
Dave and Busters (maybe this is just me LOL)

I'm a Dave & Buster's gurl myself. In Chicago & Houston I was notoriously known for taking all my first dates there!!!:lachen: It got to the point where me and the staff were on a first name basis! :perplexed

-I like the idea of minature golfing/arcade/bowling type of place. Something that says she knows how to have fun but that will allow alot of smiles and talk!!!

-Someone I know just tried a cooking class on a first date and he loved it!!! There are put on by either private chefs one on one in the home or at a cooking school

-The gym...men always think they know what they're doing there and feel some type of macho about it and then maybe to a salad/soup bar after that

-Had another friend that did a run/walk 5k event together on their date

-A comedy club has always been popular amongst my homegurls

-Bingo..lol..its alot more fun than you think

-& lawd...Don't let me forget Black-light bowling!!! You can call your local bowling alley and see if they do this, where they turn the blacklights on and everything is glowing from you to the balls (ah-hem ladies) to the pins!...this one is real popular so you have to get there early.

For the most part your ideas will come from his hobbies which should be asked about prior to the first date anyhow and from there you can just get so creative. I just do D&B's because for me its a cheating way to gauge what type of man I am dealing with on so many different levels.

rollerskating! :D
might sound childish.. but can be quite cute and FUN..
and a good exuse(spelled wrong?) to hold hands :)

What's a "Dave and Busters"? :perplexed

It's a place that has games and activities, as well as food. Kind of like a Chuck-E-Cheese, but more adult. They serve drinks, have big-screen TVs, etc.

So the idea would be that even though you're on a date and eating, etc., you're also having fun by playing games and watching the big game as well.

(Be careful though... the woman who killed Steve McNair was a waitress at Dave and Buster's!)

I think D&B can be a good idea. I actually prefer a sit-down and eat (or drink coffee) date first because I like to talk and get to know a guy, but Dave and Buster's can help break up the monotony if you're on a bad date or it can help people loosen up and not be so nervous also!
