I love to braid and style little girls hair and have since I was a girl. At day camp, some mothers used to bring the little girls to camp in the morning with their hair uncombed because they knew I would do it for them. That started when I was about 11.
Anyway, now I'm a 37 year old mother and I have two boys! My boys are known at their schools as the "kids with the hair that smells so good" because of all the nice conditioners and moisturizers I use. I must admit, they have the shiniest, sheeniest, blinginest little boy hair I've ever seen, lol.

This is so crazy! I ALWAYS think of Cassidy, Chloe and Caelin. Yes I'm having 3 girls (leave me to my delusions) And I think about the stuff we'll do, how i'll teach them, wondering what they'll like re: sports/music/arts etc, wondering about their personalities... But i have never really thought about their hair. I assume they'll have a looser texture than mine since their dad's hair will be bone straight, but hopefully my girls will have curls and not straight hair.

I have a 14yo girl, and she's a beast with her hair. She and I fight all the time, and I've had to hide the flat iron because that was her best friend, even when I was telling her not to use it daily. She really damaged the front of her hair, but now I've been taking her to get it washed, flat ironed once or twice a month and taking care of it myself in the mean time. She loves it now that its getting healthier and she finds she can do more of her styles with it.

I didn't want a girl, I don't even like to do my own hair, and her hair is so thick that it defies all manner of straighteners. Perms, flat iron, blow dry, no matter what it still puffs up when it feels and wrapping that crap is the pits! lol I don't wish that on anyone. that's why I wanted a boy with all my heart.

As the parent of an almost 13yr old, it will be more than just taking care of it girl it will become a second set hair that you feel like belongs to you except it's on another body, LOL! I am hoping by the time she turns 14 (God willing) I will have learned to let go and let do a little on her own.

I have a little girl now. And when I was pregnant, I just knew her hair would be like mine. Which is 4a/b. Wrong! lol :lachen:

During my whole pregnancy I stalked pictures and blogs with little girls with cornrows etc and practiced styles on my little sisters hair.

Chile this baby has 3a hair..lol

Now I'm, dealing with a head full of curls that I have to style almost everyday.
She is also a little girly girl and pretty much mimics what I like, clothes shoes, purses etc. She is only 1.5. :drunk:

That is so me!!

I totally looked forward to having a daughter with hair like mine (4b) and dreamt that growing up she would show the world how beautiful, healthy, and long natural 4b hair was cuz of all the stuff I've learned since being natural!

But alas...she came out with 3b hair. I guess we wont be proving any points. She's 1.5 also! Shes got super thick hair and its kinda long (especially compared to her playmates) but we're already getting the "its cuz she got good hair" drama. Sometimes I wish I could just come out and say that if they took care of their babies hair like I did hers then theirs wouldnt be a dry ashy-looking mess...but those are fighting words...especially about 1 year olds lol.

OT: Those same non-healthy-hair moms were absolutely appalled when I said that I wasnt ever giving my daughter a relaxer. You'da thought Id said I wasnt gonna let her have medical care!

My niece is 5 and they live a couple of hours away from me. I don't agree with some of the decisions my sister has made regarding my niece's hair....if only I lived closer.:look:

The only set rule I would have is no relaxer's until college, at that point she can make up her own mind about how she wants to wear her hair. I know how to braid and would probably keep her hair in nice braid styles as a child. I like little girls to look their age so I wouldn't lean to straighter styles (pressing/flat ironing) until she is older.

LiberianGirl, you're going to laugh at me. My niece is just under 7 months old, so there's not much to do....yet. But I can dream.

I used to always dream of what kind of hair my daughter would have when I was pregnant with her. All I know is that I wanted her hair to be nice and thick so I could do those really thick and chunky braids and twists.

She was bald for the first 10 months then her hair just started sprouting out into beautiful 4a kinky curly hair. I love my daughter and I love her hair. I'm thinking about growing out my son's hair just to get to know his texture.

LOL! I always think of my (future) daughters Lana and Jules! :lachen:

I have two daughters (7 and 1) and I just love doing their hair...especially since I've discovered healthy hair care sites!

Me too! I have a 4 y.o. dd and I love doing her hair. I pretty much keep it braided/cornrowed and I moisturize it twice a day. I could play in it all day but she doesn't like it. When I found this board last Dec she was SL, she's now between APL and BSL. I will let it grow to WL and keep it trimmed there.

I've never liked barrettes or beads or those pony holders with the two balls at the end of the elastic. I've always thought they looked kind of gaudy and tacky. I don't want children, but if I did have them and ended up with a daughter, we'd be working with headbands and scrunchies until she's old enough to wear sticks and forks. I know this because I've had this convo with b/f's mother. She has (repeatedly) offered to do any future daughters' hair. She's extra enthusiastic about her son having kids with me because she'll have "grandbabies with good hair", but I really really don't like the look of beads and barrettes. I've seen what she's done to her own daughter's hair, and I don't want any kid of mine all greased up with 10 lbs of accessories on their head.

aw! i am really keeping my fingers crossed that i have a little princess. if i end up having a little tomboy i would be fie with that, but it wouldn't be as much fun. ♥

I don't even have a daughter yet, and I can't wait! Hopefully she'd be as into beauty and haircare as I am. That'd just be perfect.
