Spinoff: Discernment & Personal Prophesy

Hi Ladies,

This thread is in response to the one asking about psychics, in which people started to talk about the difference between psychics and Spirit-led prophets and the ability to discern the voice of God over the voice of man.

Personally, I struggle with knowing what the proper response should be...action? Prayer? Nothing at all? And how long to wait for fulfillment before the word should be considered to have been false?

Anyone have thoughts/experiences with prophetic words, either in speaking them or being spoken to?

The Holy spirit that lives in us helps us discern the voice of God. To narrow it down, any power that is not of God is of the devil. Psychics, mediums, spiritualists and the likes have powers that are definitely not from God so they're from the devil.

Regarding false prophets, the bible says we should test the spirits. 1 John 4:1 -3 "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone into the world. This is how you can recognize the spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. ..."

I don't think one should wait for for a prophecy to be proven true or false. I think you should just pray on it and wait on God for it will come into fruitition as it will in His time only. Abraham was given a promise of a son and 24 years later, no son of his own. This didn't mean the prophecy was false, it just meant it wasn't time yet.

Before I gave my life to Jesus, I had encounters with psychics and my advice is flee from them. They are not of God. Look at this way, would you give your bank account details to just anyone? Would you give your house keys to just anyone? How much more your spirit? When you visit psychics, you give them permission and access to your spirit. Everytime I picked up the phone to call the psychics, my spirit would react very viciously. My heart began to beat real fast and I began to feel hot and sweat and I didn't understand it then. My spirit rejected it very strongly. If I decided not to call, I would calm down and if I did call, when I got off the phone, I felt cold then I calm down. I was born in a Christian home. I gave my life to Christ in my teens but soon moved on from the decision and went my own way. Although I had forgotten God, God had not forgotten me. I gave my life to Christ properly soon after that, I was in dire need of help and understanding and when I finally asked God to help, I felt peace, like a comfort blanket was all around me. My spirit felt at peace, like that's where it was supposed to be.

I haven't been prophesied to exactly, but my parents have and my brother. The prophecy over my dad was in 2002, it hasn't come to fruitition yet but things are starting to fall into place for it.

Good thread. The Scriptures give numerous tests or identifying marks of a prophet:

Test Number 1: Deuteronomy 18:21-22:
"And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."

Test Number 2: Numbers 12:6
"And he said, hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream."

Test Number 3: Numbers 24:4 & 16
"He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open...He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:"

Test Number 4: Daniel 10:17
"For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me."

Test Number 5: Daniel 10:18
"Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me."

Test Number 6: Jeremiah 28:9
"The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him."

Test Number 7: 2 Peter 1:20
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."

Test Number 8: 2 Peter 1:21
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

Test Number 9: 1 Corinthians 14:3
"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."

Test Number 10: Isaiah 8:19-20
"And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

Test Number 11: 1 John 4:1-3
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they, are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world."

Test Number 12: Matthew 7:15-16

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. . ."
