Spinnoff: Salt and Hair Products

1. Why would salt be added to hair products?

2. What is the scientific name to look for when checking ingredients?

I believe some salts are added to beauty products to act as a preservative. In the ingredient lists of most products, salt is listed as "Sodium", and is usually followed by another word., i.e. "Sodium Hydroxide".
