\"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

Hello Everyone,
I just can't believe all of the
wonderful & truly helpful
advice and support I have come
across at this forum ALREADY!
My thanks!

Ok, I swear I read somewhere on here
about someone "spiking" there
relaxer with protein or oils...

The idea sounds so good, but is
it really POSSIBLE?? And if so,
how should that be done without
ruining the relaxer's effectiveness?

*Just* before application by stirring
it inside the product?

Or should a lite oil or something be applied
directly to the hair before application..?

I'm really scared to perm again at the
moment since I got what I suspect as
lye-related damage during my last touch-up...

BUT if I ever feel ready to
Relax once again, I think "spiking"
or conditioning *during* the
process would be a safer way 2 go.

I'd just like to know how!

PLEASE advise... All input is
so gratefully appreciated!

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

I believe that some add a little oil to the relaxer before application.

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

I've added about 1tbs. of extra virgin olive oil to my relaxer (Motions Mild) when I self relaxed.

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

kenesha, how were the results, did u notice anything different

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

Yes, ms_kenesha I'd luv to know, too!?
What are/were final results!

You think even *more* could be added
(without exaggerating of course)??...

Raquel thanks for your tidbit. Do/Did you
relax too? If so have you Spiked, too?

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

The oil slows the relaxer process down which I did not know so my hair was more underprocessed than I liked, more of a texturized effect than a relaxer effect, so keep that in mind. If you want relaxer like effect you may want to leave it on a little longer than you normally would or go for a higher relaxer strength i.e. regular instead of mild like I used.

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

Yes I have self relaxed but never spiked because I was using Motion Oil relaxer. Supposely they add the oil in already. After reading Kenesha reply I'm thinking that is why I couldn't get my hair as relaxed as I would like it.

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

ms_kenesha I hadn't thought of the spiking
and altered processing times....

Good observation! IF if if I relax again
I may try that with a very light oil and maybe
not add too much.

Raquel your experience sounds consistent
with ms_kenesha's... I forget about the
underprocessing possibility so maybe
going for a slightly higher strength with
the oil could bring out the texture desired.

Thank you everyone for the input!

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

I use about 1 1/2 TBS of EVOO and my relaxer still turns out great. I use Affirm Lye Mild.

Re: \"Spiking\" Relaxers/Conditioning *While* U Process

Yes, I do the same thing Ms. Kenesha! I spike mine with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and stir it up and then apply the relaxer. I like the results too!!
