SPENDING AN AFTERNOON ON YOU TUBE....

TRANSITION OVER! 11-22-14
I've been discouraged lately about my hair. I am having issues with knots and my lack of style skills. I started searching you tube and looked at other ladies regimens. I was so encouraged by their progress, I spent the afternoon doing my hair. I've decided to use low heat on my hair. I have an electric hot comb. I used the lowest setting to aid in detangling. My flat twists look a lot better. I definitely am glad that I did go on you tube, first, because I usually make rash decisions when it comes to my hair.

Just throwing this out there. Hot combs caused so much breakage on my hair. I would recommend using a jilbere or other wide tooth comb with conditioner for detangling instead of a hot comb

i use kbb hair milk to detangle on wash day it has glycerin but towards the bottom of the ingredients( i'm able to use year round) and i use a shower comb. keep your hair stretched, condtioned and moisturized.

I detangle my hair first. The hot comb is electric and it seems to me that heat helps me to minimize single strand knots. I do not use it alone to detangle my hair. This is after it has been detangled already. Sorry if I was not clear. Is it better to use a blow dryer, then?

For some people keeping their hair stretched minimizes ssk's. Some do this through twists, braids, or banding. I would avoid heat bc it will hurt your ends in the long run
Also really small twists and braids don't seem to help. Make the twists medium to large

I can't do small twists because my hair looks stupid with it.:lachen: I truly appreciate all your tips. I think I'm going to try blow drying my hair instead. I tried stretching it by banding and my twists look so fuzzy.:nono: Using light heat seems to help. I have more researching to do.:yep:

Hi DD

What do you think is causing the SSKs, what do you do with your hair daily?

I had your frustrations with styling about 6 months ago with my TWA. I think the problem is the length more than anything. I just did twist/braid outs rebraiding nightly as actual twists didn't work with my length. And when you get sick of that you could just put your hair away?

Just to say hang in there my hair is now nearly long enough to put in a bun, 6 months makes a lot of difference in terms growth.

I had the same issues with my dd hair (who is natural). What helped a LOT was after 2 weekly Aphogee 2 min reconstructor treatments & the Denman brush I have a conair knock-off . The protein treatments really soften her hair it made a HUGE difference in detangling. . Soften her hair so much it made the detangling process EZ breezy. I also have a knock-off Jilbere by Conair. I dont used the detangling comb that much the Denman works wonders for us.

During the winter I blow dried my dd hair to give her twist more length. Since its been so HOT in FL since April. I just let her twist air dry.

HTH/HHG

i love youtube!! it inspires me also when i see people doing hairstyles and im like i can do that too!! then of course i wind up sucing @ it and giving up lol

I already know that 2 strand twists won't work for me. :nono: I intend to stick with flat twists until I can bun. My SSK came from washing and going. My hair just wraps around itself something awful. I will not be able do those as often. Even twist outs are deadly for me as of right now. My best ever hair style right now is flat twists on lightly blow dried hair. I am finally feeling like I am able to be a successful natural. I just had to fix my focus. I am also keeping a journal and logging down regimens of other successful naturals. All that knowledge has been so helpful. :yep: I am hopeful to finally achieve my goal of learning how to cornrow my own hair.:amen::giggle:

/\ /\:yep: just do what you gotta do to survive this length is all i can say. When I get frustrated I look at rustic beauty and co on you tube and start imagining the days when I can wear shoulder length twists.
