Cute look on you. I love the bangs with the scarf around your head. You did a great job on your bangs. I was thinking about cutting them myself. You gave great instructions!

Love the delicious ends....so thick! I can't wait until I touch up to get rid of my deep "V".

Hey Southern! Your pics are absolutely inspiring--as always. I thought about you the other day when I pulled out my good 'ol MnT Shamp. & Cond. Welcome back chica! :)

Thak you for Southergirl for blessing me with your album...I LOVE YOUR HAIR. Thank You for proving society wrong..."Black girls can grow their own hair."

I love this message hottopic - I agree totally! Just takes a little patience and work!!

Thanks girlie,

Hi Southern Girl,
Your bangs are very cute...Love the hair as usual. You look like a model in your avatar pic.

Take Care

Hey SG!!!!
I have missed you around here!

You look marvelous!!! I love the bangs, color and style!

Got me contemplating bangs again!

Welcome back!

I know that I'm risking sounding really sappy right now, but I have to thank you guys again for all the heartfelt compliments. It really means a lot to me and has brightened my whole week :)

I'd love to thank everyone individually but this post would be way too long!!! Just know that all of the comments mean a lot to me.

RachiQue - Just know that all hair, whether relaxed or natural, can be a challenge every now and then. I still debate about whether to go natural or not sometimes!

Honi - I'm so glad you liked my bangs technique! I'll also tell you another trick that will help you decide whether or not you'll like them:

Before I cut mine, I went out and bought a track of hair, and cut it into bangs. I secured it to my hairline with bobby pins so I could see whether or not I would like them. I found an exact match to my hair so it would look like the real thing (that wig in my protective album also inspired me). When I saw that I liked the look, I just cut my own hair! Hopefully that will help you decide as well.

Chocokitty - Glad you're still using the MNT! It's really paid off for me :)

Thanks,
SG

SG, I never got a chance to thank you for inspiring me. You are proof that 4a hair types can grow to brastrap and beyond. Your S curl tip also helped me when I thought my hair would never be soft. I'm glad your're back on the block! I can't wait til my hair gets to even a 1/4 of your length!

Hey Natrlchallenge

That is so sweet!!! I'm just happy that I was able to give you some ideas :)
I haven't used S-Curl in a while, but it probably would be really good in the summer!! Don't worry, you'll reach your goals in no time.

And Mecca, thanks so much! I really missed chatting with you guys.

Hey Tryintogrow

I've just been using the MNT conditioner on my scalp and hair and that's it. Even if I just co-wash with MNT, I still part my scalp in small sections (the way you would apply grease) and put a little bit on the hair and ends. Only when it's back in a ponytail do I do this, because the conditioner as a leave-in on my scalp makes it a little crunchy.

If it's down, I just either co-wash with MNT or use CON and skip the conditioner altogether since CON is very moisturizing. I don't like for it to be weighed down so much when it's down. If I find I need a bit of oil, I just use a small amount of olive oil. I haven't experiended breakage though lately (knock on wood), so I haven't had the need to use it. The MNT as a leave-in just makes my hair feel strong.

HTH,
SG

Ironically while the boards were down I looked through all my saved sites to get info on hair and self relaxing and I came across your site. I was like omg she is a do it yourself just like how I would like to be.

To me, the ability to be the main one handling your hand needs is not an easy task and I applaud all those who have decided to do it themselves. It really is inspirational and I hope to one day be able to do all my treatments myself.

Your hair is gorgeous and I love how it is probably healthier and more beautiful because you took the time to do it yourself. I am learning, hopefully one day I can be just like you. :) God bless you all.

Azul11,

Thank you so much :)

Glad you stumbled accross the page! I think a lot more of us are becoming do-it-yourselfers (at least for some things). Nothing against stylists and salons, but I find that I take a lot more time and care when treating my hair than what I've experienced the few times I've gotten it professionally done. I think this would be true of most of us, because it's the hair on our heads so we have an interest in treating it well.

Sure it takes lots of patience and creativity, but it's worth it in the end for me, and I save lots of money! I may not know the proper hair-cutting or relaxing techniques, but if I'm happy with the outcome then that's what counts. Now, having said all that, I am no stylist! I wish I could look like I stepped out of the salon with perfect hair like some women I see, but since I keep simple styles, it works for me.

Thanks,

SG

SG :)

unfortunately, i am a broke student with no camera. as of the last week of june, before i got weaved up, the longest part of my hair was a lil bit above my shoulders. thats some progress considering that i had cut it to about 2 inhes at the end of january. since i'm growing out a short cut, my hair is not all one length. the good thing tho is that my hair has regained its thickness. about this time last year is when i started taking care of my hair and it was so thin and broken off. I can definitely feel the difference.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, Southerngirl!!!!! :notworthy :notworthy Much love to our MNT President!!!! :D :D

I remember when i had my albums with a password, I couldnt get into my own albums when I tried it without logging in. and I know i had my own password right. I know sometimes it takes several attempts, but sometimes it wont work at all...argghh
