It looks like 4c hair with an old braid or twistout in a high top fade. It would look better if he took more off the sides and made it a Mohawk or a true fade

I'm not 100% sure but based on my brothers hair texture that looks similar I would say he just trims the sides and it just clumps on the top like that. It's not loc'ed but it pretty much is since he doesn't comb it, just shakes it after washing and overtime it turns into something like that.

I like it since I'm in his age group and I get the look he is going for. Similar styles are kind of common in young black guys today (although his is a bit longer). I also like thick kinky hair so I can look past the oddness. Lol.

My mom complains about my brothers hair too

DH was watching a game last night (don’t know if it was live or recorded) and I tried to explain this hair to him. I have to admit I don’t really like it (I’m probably the age of the poster’s above mom) but I DO like that the”kids” nowadays are accepting and embracing their natural texture.
