Hello everyone, my name is Mia and I'm new to this site. I desperately want to grow my hair to its full potential which is back length, but I need alittle assistance. I never really paid attention to my hair care regimen before because I never had problems.
Lately though I'm about ready to pull it all out due to breakage up the yin/yang!! It's alittle longer than my chin right now, but it has lost it's luster, elasticity, and overall strength. I definitely need to add a multivitamin to the mix but I need help on picking the correct amount for good growth.
I wash once a week with Thermasilk and condition with Queen Helene Cholesterol. I sometimes do an olive oil and honey treament or coconut oil. I apply carrot cream and oil before braiding. When they are dry, I press. Then I leave it alone. I have a satin cap as well. My last relaxer was Febuary 4th. I have heard great things about Motions, Aphrogee, and Redken and I would like to know what products do you guys(gals) use to maintain your strength and length. I would love you

this much for your help. I need all I can get to get through this. My boyfriend is looking forward to long hair.

By the By, I LOVE to keep my products as natural as possible if I can afford to. (It actually comes out cheaper I've realized. Thank You!!

what protein treatment are u currently using? because yo hair mite be in need of prtein which may be the reason it has lost its elasticity...also how often do u use heat?? how often do u wear protective hairstyles??

Hi Mamamia and welcome!!

Just to say based on your mentioning wanting more natural stuff, I'd recommend you introducing extra virgin olive oil into your regime. I've found (as well as others) that when a little is added to conditioners, it really helps boost the moisture levels in the hair. Also, used as a pre-shampoo treatment (warmed first and left on dry hair for as long as you can) works well when done over a period of a few weeks to let benefits accumulate.

I like to use it as a leave in too for braid outs or a little on dry ends during rollarset days.

Its a nice versatile, all natural and effective ingredient.

Mia, welcome aboard!

You're on your way to get your hair growing and shining. BRH is right when she says that you can start with olive oil. I want to also add that with the EVOO, you can mix other oils such as peppermint, sage, rosemary, or sweet almond.

As far as supplements are concerned, you can take a regular multivitamin, and include amino acids, flaxseed oil, MSM, B-5, Biotin, vitamin E, B-12, and protein powder. Hair loves the nutrients and protein that helps your hair grow long and strong. Avoid the scissors, unless you plan on trimming the damaged ends off. Other than that, steer clear from them.

Feel free to post some ????s anytime or leave a PM.

Hi and welcome to the board. You'll be on the 'trek' to longer hair in no time. I was wondering though, you said you 'press' your hair..is that as in hot comb or flat ironing? I ask because you said you relax so why do you use more heat to straighten it? That is alot of stress on your hair(in my opinion)...even if it is only once a week...especially on relaxed hair(ends).

Welcome Mamamia,

As far as vitamins, start off with a good multi (Centrum, One a Day, etc.) some B-Complex and at least 5mg of Biotin. Those are the basic staples.

Try conditioner washes (do a search on this board) and I'll back up Brownrelaxed on the Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I usually put just a teaspoon or less along with 5 drops of WGO (Wild Growth Oil) in my moisturizing conditioner and it makes your hair feel moist and smooth like silk.

Don't worry about your hair, you'll do fine.

Welcome Mia,

I have to say that one of my favorite natural hair products is unrefined 100% pure coconut oil. This has done wonders for my hair (especially the new growth). My hair has grown 1/4 inch more every month because of it (bring the total to 1 inch/month). If you do decide to purchase, only get the kind that melts at 73 degrees.

Mamma mia, here I go again. My my, how can I resist you?

Hey MamaMia!
Well, you said you like natural products, right??
Let me tell you about Nature's Gate!!!
It is one of the best haircare lines I have ever found(and I have tried enough products for me and 35 other people!)
Nature's Gate Conditioners are really, really moisturizing and I like the hippy chick scents to them.
My favorite ones are The original, and The Henna conditioners. I havent tried their shampoos, because I do conditioner only washes with Suave, but I bet they are pretty good.
You could try looking around in a Health Food store and see what they have.
Oh yes....now that I am done raving about the wonders of NG....Welcome!!
