Softening 4b hair...

I recently purchased a product that has placenta in it and it softened my hair like no product I've ever use. The regular sized tooth comb literally glided through my hair and no hair came out. Then I find out from here that placenta is cancerous so I'm probably going to finish this jar and not repurchase. My question is are there any daily moisturizers or pomades that are comparable to placenta? I think it might be that ingredient that softened the hair and this is the best my hair has ever felt.

What conditioner is this? Does it really give u a lot of moisture and slip?

It has placenta in it so it's supposedly not good to use. It's not a conditioner. It's like a pomade/gel. My hair seems to love it but of course something has to be wrong:(

I used to use this when I was relaxed. It always worked great. Now I just DC every two weeks or so and that's good enough to keep my hair soft :yep:

I never heard anything about placenta causing cancer. The placenta in personal care products is animal placenta. I'm not comfortable with the idea of using placenta, but I'm not sure how it would cause cancer unless it's from cancerous animals ... and even then I don't see the connection even though it's revolting. There are scads of choices when it comes to conditioners. Maybe try reading the monthly "hits and misses" threads and don't forget to pay attention to the hair texture/type of the person who recommends the product coz a "hit" for someone else could be a "miss" for you.

I think I commented on this from another thread, but I said I wouldn't use it because I've read about placenta's possible links to cancer. Placental products can mimic estrogen in the body (Please review this Cornell University website for more information if you are interested: http://envirocancer.cornell.edu/research/endocrine/videos/makeup.cfm). From my personal health experiences and family history, I have decided not to use such products. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. If it works for your hair and you like it, then use it.

People make decisions on their hair care from research and experience. Just in the same way that some women don't use parabens because of its possible linkage to cancer, I have decided to avoid certain ingredients for certain reasons. Just in the same way that some women have decided against using sulfates, mineral oil, etc. for whatever informed reason, I have done the same.

Hope that helps a little to know where I was coming from.
