Okay, I have been on a mission to help my dds and my hair this summer, we have been dcing at least bi-weekly if not weekly.

I dc my oldest dd's hair last night. This time I used Infusium Moisturologie conditioner mixed with honey and EVOO. I also added some Organix Nourishing Coconut Conditioner b/c we love the smell. In the past I used Nexus Humectress and Biolage Ultra Hydrating. They are expensive, so I trying to find substitutes.

I used the homemade steam system (two turbans, two plastic bags, and a heat cap). She sat for 20 minutes. We rinsed with ice cold water. Yikes!!!

Her hair was soft, but the surface of the hair was rough feeling. This is the way it always comes out. Well, I continued with the HE LTR leave in, and then coated the hair with shea butter.

It was nice and soft, not mushy, but cottony soft. I then flat twisted the front and tst the back. It came out nice and shiny, but I am still concerned with the rough texture.

Is there something causing this? Is it just over porous? Her hair seems to be holding the moisture well. Or is it just her texture that feels this way. Is this what course hair feels like?

I'm asking this question because she swims 2-3 times a week, and her edges front, side, and back are starting to break off. I use the ORS creamy aloe shampoo when she swims and was under the impressions that it was a clarifying/chelating type poo that removed chlorine.

Any advice would be helpful.

TIA

From what you have posted, she might need some protein. All of those conditioners combined with steam treatments are great for moisturizing but I don't see any protein espeically given that she is swimming. Chlorine attacks protein bonds. Her hair is soft from the moisture treatments but it (IMO) is lacking structure, hence the rough feeling. Try a mild protein treatment to see if the texture of her hair improves. I hope you find a solution soon :sneakyhug:

Dang, I got bumped to page 9.

Thanks GF. I do use prtein on her hair some.

Now that you mention it, her hair is the only one in the house that really like the commercial Hair mayo mixes.

I will mix some Duo Tex and French Perm stabilzer into her condish next time.

may even try the Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor.

I do not want to give her protien overload.

Let me know if that helps. As long as you follow up with a moisturizing conditioner you will be fine. Its hard to give protein overload if you follow up with moisture each time you use protein. If you are using Duo Tex, try just using it straight for 3-5 minutes and then following with moisture. I do that sometimes when I am not sure I need the full 10 minutes.
