That they want me to get a weave, lol.:look::lachen:

So for those that are curious why black women (and every other race of women) in the entertainment industry has fake hair, it's all to support the illusion of Hollywood. I just signed with one of LA's top dance agencies, whom I'm really excited to be with. They said that it's really important that when you walk on set, or set foot in an audition that you always look DONE and it's all about taking things to the next level. I've always known this, but I've been on this "my own hair" kick that I haven't really thought about weaving since leaving it behind nearly 2 yrs ago. Besides as a dancer, I am sweating like a PIG just about 6 days a week. And I mean DRENCHED, my hair is the biggest issue at auditions where I want to remain looking fabulous from the time I walk in to the time I am done. A lot of times I've gone in with wigs for that matter. My hair + buckets of sweat = :nono: :eek2::busted:

For my look, they want my hair long and layered. They want some bangs in there as well. I had NO problem with this because the more you work, the more people are in your hair, and this can give me the opportunity to protect my hair and continue to grow it out without worry. Plus, I don't like NOBODY in my hair anyways, can you imagine one of US in a stylist's chair... "Um excuse me, I know you're not about to put that flat iron in my hair at 450 degrees are you? Here, can you use this heat protectant, and this wide tooth comb, and ONLY comb from the ends on up... Oh and wait, what are you planning on doing with that hairspray?":bat::angry2::hardslap:

So anyways, just wanted to share this funny bit of info, as much as I want to rock my own tresses (which is now close to APL - passed the length in my siggy), it's time to tuck her away for a little while and go back to weaves. Hell wait til I'm BSL, I'm going to layer cut and swang that hair all over town. (To tell you the truth I'm a little nervous about going back to weaves, I want my hair to continue to thrive. I may get it ALL weaved up.)

Now back to your regularly scheduled program!

You seriously brightened my day....i'm in mourning after losing my grandad yesterday to cancer.

Nothin like a really good hair joke! :lachen:

Be Blessed lady!! :yep:

I'm sure your hair will do GREAT with a weave. You may want to check BHM. A lot of ladies there are doing weaves with closures, that way they don't have to leave any hair out and they don't have to worry about blending. And there's a lady who is a cheerleader (in the NFL I think) who wears weaves and her they look great (even on the field...she posted some pics).

Anyway, I think it'll turn out fine. And you'll be able to protect your hair. Last thing you need is a setback because folks on set want burn right through your hair.

Sorry for your lose SE.

Foxie- reading that made me nervous for your hair, lol. Weave it up, protect it, and rock the heck out of your BSL hair when it's time.

Hmmmm that sounds real suspect but looking on the bright side @ least it's a protective style!:yep: you could also consider tree braids their great becuase you don't leave any hair out and you don't have to worry about blending.

Man I tell ya I'm really getting an education on the craziness that is LA:nono: this is all new to me. Here in NYC most of the fiercest dancers are natural and worshipped for it some of them make being damn near BALD fly.

I go to see Alvin Ailey every year in NYC and the majority of them are natural I never knew that LA was so eurocentric untill these recent threads.

Actually I am a former Ailey dancer, lol. Some of the girls have their hair, some of them have weaves, some are relaxed, some are natural. There's an equal mix. However there's a MAJOR difference between concert dance and commercial dance too though where commercial dance is all centered in film, tv, commercials, print, and music videos. (New York's dance market is definitely more concert/dance company based and Broadway -- which is weave and wig city there though. LA is all about film, etc.) I think that overall there is a mix of naturals and relaxed/weaves, etc, but again, some naturals aren't all natural (weaved and wigged naturals too believe it or not), and I think what I may be marketed for is more of the Beyonce back up dancer type - more of a glam style.

I just HATE having my hair braided :nono:. But I'm going to go ahead and try it for a while. I'll just have to remember to take breaks here and there to let my hair get some time to just "be."

Well, foxieroxie (luv your name, btw), I would suggest a full-head weave, ie, no hair left out. I left some out the third (and last) time I got a weave, like, 18 months ago, and I will never do that again. I had so much damage in the areas that were left out that I swore weaves off forever. I was done. I still have some damage (that noticeable only to me and my prying eyes... and camera lens).

Weave all of that hair up and protect your beautiful hair. It's a great way to easily get to BSL without having to worry about your hair, and you don't have to worry about sweating out your style.

I'm surprised that you're surprised.
LA is like...NYC's less edgy little sister. It has a great arts scene, but it's definitely not as welcoming to looks that are slightly divergent from the current beauty ideal. Like, LA is such a...place of extremes. You can be wayy off the charts (rainbow colored mohawk), or you're right on them (butt length silky weave). Not much room for anyone in-between. :nono:

But I digress.
Make sure you post pics of the weave, OP! I'm sure your hair will thrive with it. :yep:

Girl you hit the nail RIGHT over the head. LA is totally all or nothing. You either REALLY stand out, or you kinda sorta stand out, but you do what the "Romans" do in your own way.

So I'm going to conform and make some $$ lol. However I will DEFINITELY get a full sew in w/ a closure piece (good idea CeeBee) no hair out for sure. The last time I did a weave, I left the front out, my hair did ok, but my stylist always changed up the parts to avoid thinning. I will just do the full closure to avoid all and any chances of damage because y'all KNOW I was already thinking about how I was going to care for/blend/DC/Moisturize/Oil the hair left out to work with the weave. :look::spinning: I just need to put it all away and just focus on taking care of the hair underneath. Plus less worry about rogue tracks and track detection, lol.

Well, at least now you know how to properly take care of your hair underneath the weave. Rock your weave and dance girl. :)

LOL yeah I'll be poppin in here this time next year with WL hair, lol. Think I'm not gonna be DC-ing and Mega Tekking up in there... Yes-sir-ree I will be, lol.

I wish Reniece was near! I'd be in her chair. I'm thinking about this style:

But I think they may have me get something more like this:

I'm sitting here in my lace front that's kinda like a shorter Kelly version. It's also the same length as my hair now (woohoo I remember when it was longer), so I can rock it tomorrow as a test drive at work lol. I have before everyone thinks it's my hair. I'll post a pic later, off to Sally to buy some skin care stuff and a barrel iron for this hair. It looks great. I may rock some human hair lacefronts and braid my hair underneath. I just can't imagine not having access to my scalp for 3 months at a time, the thought of that just KILLS ME! Hard to believe I weaved for 2 full years without breaks. Besides I'm not on set every single day and it's nice to think that I can rock my own hair if I wanted to. I'll run this by my agents and see what they say. Lots of gals do lacefronts as weave alternatives.

Ok, time for a wig shopping trip on Crenshaw Blvd!
