what am I doing wrong? my rollersets always end up looking like a week old by day 2. I used lottabody diluted well with water and a little evoo and still no real success.t it made my hair prone to tangles! I have even tried a styling foam bu Is it my technique or my products? I want to be able to wear more rollersets but if they keep ending up like this...

How do you wear it when you go to bed?

What color rollers are you using?

I always wrap my hair at night to keep it looking decent for a couple of days.

A response from a FOM! I feel special!! I used my flexirods which I only use on dry hair and I sleep in my satin bonnet.

Are you using enough tension while you roll your hair? This is what helped me: the hair needs to be "taut" while rolling, and make sure the hair is "bone" dry before unrolling.

Hope this Helps!! :yep:

Well, I have been here forty years, but I've finally gotten the hang of making a pretty rollerset. I don't use setting lotion on my 4b relaxed hair. Instead, I use a creamy leave in by Salerm or Keracare. Then, I use a serum (Fantasia IC Olive Oil). My hair is almost dripping wet when I roll. I either air-dry or sit under the dryer depending on how much time I have to spare.

I just rollerset on Saturday night. I wore my hair out on Sunday. Then, I slept on it without rolling it up that night:blush:. On Monday, my hair was still cute without doing a thing to it:yep:. The right combination of products can make a difference.

Im gonna cowash this evening and try this again. This time I'm not using anything but my HE LTR and see how that turns out

 girl stop!!

Sometimes when I use too small of a roller for my hair length it will make my hair tangle. Do you think that could be it? What color flexirod are you using at night?

I use the same products. Sometimes when I use too much lottabody it makes my hair hard and not easy to manage. I usually use 3 parts water to 1 part lottabody. What ratio are you using?

Try it without product like a pp said and see how it turns out for you. My curls didn't last as long but everyone's hair is different.

It's probably the Lottabody. I know some people use it successfully, but that stuff makes my hair crunchy and dry. I use a creamy leave-in and a serum. If I want longer lasting curls, I use a foam wrap lotion.

I also wrap or pincurl at night. If I'm really lazy, I just put on a bonnet and my hair still looks nice in the morning.

Do you have anything that is less viscous than HE LTR? I like my creamy leave ins for rollersets to be a little more on watery side than LTR. Also, if you only have LTR, make sure you follow it with a little serum. Don't get heavy handed with either. I hope that it works.

Can I ask a dumb question (I know there's a separate thread for that lol)? What do you guys mean by "serum"? Is it the same IC "heat protectant" that I used when I flat ironed? I think it comes with a red top. So is a serum a cone-based product that locks in moisture? Or is it something else?

just finished cowash and rolled on orange flexirods with HE LTR and SE oil heat protect serum. I hope it works!!

Y'all need to dilute that lottabody 5 (water) to 1 (lottabody). Also, try the new Olive Oil lottabody. If you use the Olive Oil version you can dilute that as little as 3 to 1.

i used lottabody and my roller set was so stiff,i said never again.only used it once.
went back to what i was doing before no setting lotion for me.

I've perfected my roller setting combo - Equal parts (very little) HELTR leave in + Giovanni Direct Leave In topped with a lil Chi silk infusion. Silky, swangy, shiny hair for days, every time. :yep:

At night I add a lil more chi and either wrap or add flexi rods to the ends for a lil bump.

I also make sure to detangle very well while my hair is wet. I don't do rollersets on SOPPING wet hair, as this causes more breakage/tangles for me. My hair is wet, but I squeeze out the excess moisture after I add my leave-ins.

Hope you find what works for you :)

I use the following green Fantasia IC serum. I don't like it for flat-ironing, but it's great for rollersetting and airdrying in certain styles. It does have cones.

Update: My hair rturned out great and still looks nice and fresh. I think I've found the perfect routine. Thx all for your help and valuble tips! xoxoxo
