SO MUCH PRODUCT BUILD UP!!!

OK, SO I TOOK AT MY BRAIDS OUT TODAY THAT I HAD IN FOR 2 MONTHS( IN RECORD TIME I MIGHT ADD). BUT I HAD SO MUCH BUILD UP!!!! Some pieces of hair are just stuck together and will not come a loose. Not mention my hair is on the greasy side. What can i use to take the product buildup out?

A clarifying Shampoo of coarse! Thn follow up with a deep moisturizibg conditioner. You can also do an Apple cider Vinegar Rinse after that.Hope that helps. Do not try to comb thru your hair right now.

Firstly, do NOT shampoo before detangling. Doing so will lead to a matted, tangled mess that could lead to a setback due to the severity of your build up. You need to detangle each unbraided section, one by one to remove the build up. It's going to take a while but it is worth it. Skimping or being lazy here can lead to damage. Check out the following thread but skip step 1 since you've already taken out your braids.

She will lose more hair if doesn't detangle first. If she shampoos her hair without detangling her hair will get locked up around the buildup. Been there, done that... and I don't wish it on anybody else!

No it won't.

Have you ever had braids with extensions? She just took out her braids without removing the buildup that accumulated at the base of the braid that is on her hair. You can't just comb that through either. Check out the links I posted and maybe you'll understand why. Washing the hair first will cause more problems. I know this from experience(the one time I got lazy) prior to being on the boards. You have to use your fingers (I did/do) to separate the hair and build up first. Using a comb after is optional but I don't comb until ALL the buildup is removed from all the hair and all my hair is free/separated.

yup! Me too! It was the absolute worst and I lost so much hair because of it.

So true! Detangle while the hair is dry. Sometimes I use some serum on my fingers to help and add slippage.

please do not put water over two months of grease product and dirt. You will lose gynormous amounts of hair.

This is partly the reason why i wont braid my hair or keep it for longer than 3 weeks,

What you have to do is have patience and slowly rub each lock of hair between your fingers until it separates. I have put a little alcohol on my fingertips to aid in breaking down the gumminess of the dirt/grease.

dont get lazy and jump in the shower thingking you can just take your time because you wont..

Minimal amount of products/water/conditioner should be used in detangling. the lady above who mentioned alcohol, that is a good idea to use on your fingers, and i would suggest putting a little alcohol water on the comb after detangling with the fingers.

then you could put your hair in plats after detangling before you clarify and deep conditon. i would dilute the clarifyer with water big time or use diluted acv as not to tangle your hair back up, and wash each plait separately.

then you can deep condition and detangle again with the conditioner. i remember taking out braids as a kid, and i would comb them out then wash them, but since you have that weave thing i think its a bad idea to use a comb without at least using your fingers first.

Yes!!! This is a very important step. The bolded saved me tons of hair just last weekend.

Co-sign I say ALWAYS detangle as you go, don't loosen it all then attempt to unmat....

Thanks everyone for the replies. I took alot of your guys advice and i
- finger combed my hair, then used a wide tooth comb to detangle alittle more
- then i put each section i detangle in to a braid wrapped it up and went to bed
- i did use the alcohol and water solution on the area with heavy heavy build up and it worked like a charm!!
- then the next day i pre pooed with lime and coconut natural relaxer recipe! then i went to the salon and the washed and conditioned.
