Any tips? I was in the HYH challenge, but I decided to extend it to June. So can anyone suggest a really good detangling shampoo? Optimum Care super protecting shampoo is the best I've EVER used but I can't find it anywhere. How should I wear my hair at night to protect my ends? And what could I do to keep my newgrowth soft/manageable between shampoos?

Have you tried the Asian hair and beauty supply stores?
I use BB moisturizing Growth Lotion/Hair Strengthener and it works well for me in terms of moisturizing and I have seen less breakage as a result most times or none at all. I am trying to extend my post relaxer to 12 weeks so I will be using this and a scalp oil such as Mizani confiderm and also African Royal Hot six Oil. I use the growth lotion on my ends when I am roller setting to keep it moisturized but I am thinking of also trying the hot six oil and see how that works. I got these products at the Asian Beauty & Hair Supply store on 16th Street in Silver Spring. So far I have no complaints about these products they both have my hair soft and manageable and no breakage.

Hope this helps.

I say do it with great caution & understanding of your hair. It can be done just remember to DC, schedule protein treatments and make moisturizing a religion!

Focus on detangling conditioners. Dominican rinses are God sent. I promise you. I also mixed 10 en 1 and silicon mix. All of these cond just melt the tangles away. I did a 12wk stretch and now I'm aiming for 14 wks. No comparison to 6 mo, but for me it was like 6 mo. Also, do roller sets and then finger comb your hair into a bun. Roller sets are a life saver for stretching. I used some sort of leave in on my ends and then added little oil for bunning..

I'm on 5 months personal stretch (personnal challenge), so I plan to relax on May 1st. I'm currently at 12 weeks post relaxer, and I don't have any probleme of breakge or shedding.
I use CON shampoo once a week, but I CW a lot !!!!!! maybe 4-5 days a week. This is the only way I find my hair soft, manageable and healthy ^^
I try to clarify twice a month too.

In shampoo day, I prefer to sleep under a baggie at night (I moisturize my ends with ors olive oil and seal with vatika oil or castor oil. Then I put the baggie on them ^^)
The others days, I make 2 braids on my hair and go to sleep (under a satin scarf !)

To keep my new growth soft and manageable, I either use S-curl or ors olive oil. But co-washes does the job well ^_________^

HTH:)

Hey!

I usually stretch for 6 months. I really love KeraCare Hydrating and Detangling Shampoo. At night, if I am not baggying, I use a few hairpins to pin my hair up under my scarf and between washes, I spray my newgrowth with Dove Moisture Mist or I use some NTM Silk Touch to keep it soft. Also, I only comb my hair when washing.

A detangling process is a must!!!! I still have to purchase a good detangler for me. I had to learn the only way that I know works when it comes to moisturizers and that is trial and error. For a while I found that distilled water and conditioner mixed together worked for my hair but then all of the sudden my ng was not soft anymore it was hard and brittle so I had to switch it up. Now I use a cream moisturizer that still has water has the first ingredient, Elasta Mango Butter and have found pure joy! I am 4 months post relaxer, currrently transitioning and believe me protecting those ends is a MUST! Baby them as much as possible and always seal your moisturizers with some sort of oil. Right now I am loving the lightweight affects of jojoba.

My big thing last year was stretching. It tore my hair up. I must have been doing it wrong but I'm going back to relaxing after 10 to 12 weeks.

Good luck. I don't have any advice because I think I must have been doing something wrong.

I did the 6 months streaching and after 5 months I lost a lot of hair because I wanted to reach my goal so bad that I forgot it was all about getting my hair healthy. The streach made more damage than good to my hair. My only advice for you is to pay attention to your hair as soon as you hair starts getting unhealthy or out of control just go ahead and relax even if you are still far from your goal.

I'd recommend adding Paul Mitchell's The Detangler to your DC mixes. It really helps the process of detangling once you rinse.

I would wear hair in a loose bun or pinned to your head to minimize tension & protect the ends. Moisturizing the ends nightly is important.

S-Curl, CO washes, and lots of deep conditioning as well as drinking water can all help keep the NG soft. It really depends on your hair style and personal preferences.

These are great tips. I figured out how to stretch to 12 (3 months) weeks I would love to learn how to stretch to 24 weeks (six months). Man oh man, could you imagine the length you would gain after relaxing that much new growth!

I always detangle before shampooing. I find that Elasta QP shampoos are really cool. It's my conditioners that do the real work though. To be honest, I barely shampoo so I am fond of a TON of conditioners and even use them as leave-in conditioners. I don't play in my hair much... I am always moisturizing by daily washing with conditioner.

Hey Chica :D,

Do you wear your hair down the whole 6 months?
