So I've just graduated from college and recently moved back home. I'm looking for work and in need of a relaxer. Being that my mom is trying to purchase a new house and we are trying to get my sister settled in for her second year of college, I don't need to spend any money. Hell I CAN'T spend any money...lol. So I think I'm gonna stretch!!!!!!!! I've done it before a year ago and I went 4 months without a relaxer. This time I'm back at home and my older sister knows how to braid. She said that she's willing to braid my hair every week or so until I can get my hair relaxed. So I'm gonna wash, condition, and do my protein treatments as usual, "grease" my scalp with my boundless tresses and let her braid my hair into a ponytail/bun. This will give me a chance to save money, really pay attention to my hair again, and grow again. I'm BSL when my hair is wet, so I'm excited!!!! What do y'all think of my plan???!!!!

These are some pictures of the last time she braided my hair for me!!!

Also do y'all have any product suggestions of deep conditioners that are great for stretching??? Or anything else?

great plan. i just graduated and i'm also broke as a joke...but i'm natural so at least i don't have to worry about touchups...i bought 2 packs of kanekalon and put my hair away so i don't have to worry about cowashing and all that other stuff that costs money until i find a job.

my favorite DCs are kenra mc and gvp conditioning balm...since you (well, we, lol) are on a budget, the gvp is rather inexpensive, especially if you can get it on a buy 2 get 1 free sale at sally's. i like to doctor it with raw honey and oils, usually grapeseed. cholesterol got me through my transition, and i guess a stretch of undetermined length is kind of like a transition.

good luck to ya :)

Girl..I didn't graduate yet..coming this May I will be, but one thing is for sure..I am broke as a joke!! So I am all on saving as much money as I can right now in every department. I'm natural, and usually what I do to avoid becoming an ultra pj or spending money un-necessarily is to put my hair in plaits. I leave those in for like a month or two and it works. That way I save the products I already have and save some cash, and also that way my hair benefits from me not constantly combing it.

Deep conditioners I love:
Avocado conditioner mix: Avocado Conditioner this for me is my hair's life saver!!
Second in line is this blend of a DC: DC Blend

Hope that helps :)

congrats on graduating from school :) yay :)
the braids look nice, heck at least you have someone in your family that braids good for free. I would keep doing the braids they are great for the heat.

Congratulations on graduating, and I think your plan to stretch is awesome! I'm natural and transitioned, but like Lilsparkle said, stretching is kind of like transitioning so I'll chime in. For deep conditioning, my best friend during the transition was the protein treatment (egg-mayo-olive oil mix). I used V05 to help soften the new growth and detangle; cholesterol conditioners are even better. I think your plan sounds good as it is! Just remember that moisture, deep conditioning, and low manipulation are important during a stretch.

Thanks for the congrats. Y'all have some great tips. I will definitely keep them in mind. I'm taking notes!!!! Anyone else?!

congratulation on Graduating. I won't be graduating till december but I'm broke too. Thats what triggered my decision to transition to natural. Lord knows i cant afford to keep getting all these relaxers. I'm still trying to figure out what works best for me hair but right now ORS seems to be doing the trick in the deep condition department. And of course protective styling is helping me alone. I also tie a sick scarf around my head when I go to bed to help keep the new growth smooth. hope this helps. And good luck with the S-T-r-e-t-C -H.

Just what I wanted to say! I wish I had a family member or close friend I could trust to braid my hair for free... :look:

Congrats on graduating! I wish you the best of luck in finding a great job soon.

Thanks ladies....I really hope I find some kind of a job soon. I'm so broke and my mom is a single mother and my sister attends Duke. Hello.....53,000 a year! I really don't want to live off of my mom too much longer. But anyways, I digress. Yep I'm definitely gonna be rocking braids for a while!!!
