So a couple of days ago, I gave in to my desire to relax my natural hair. I was bent on doing it against all common sense. So I apply the relaxer in a crazy haphazzard way...I freaked out as soon as I started doing it - I was terrified of burning myself so I just hurried it through and then rinsed it out. When I was done, my hair looked like how it did before but the back part was more loose/springy and hung down more (I have a TWA). The centre/crown of my hair is the SAME shrunken tight dry curly way it was before. The front is wavy as it was before. :perplexed

So I kinda liked it at first, but I'm in the same boat as I was before. It's still the same look but now there's chemicals in it!!! If I had known I wouldn't have done it to be honest, because I have the same look (natural) It's just a little bit looser of a curl pattern with the crown area waaay underprocessed.

I'm not sure what to do: I'm hesitant to bust out some more relaxer (I used Silk Element Shea Butter LYE mild formula) and go over my hair again to be fully relaxed - I do NOT want to be bald, lol. Or just continue on as though nothing ever happened? Nobody can tell that I even did anything to.

I guess what I want to know is will I suffer repurcussions by just leaving it and never correcting or retouching? Can I go on as if I never messed with it in the first place? Or should I go and have this fixed.

I shoulda just left it alone...I don't want to start losing hair though...HELP! :wallbash:

It sounds like you're insecure about the whole matter. If you aren't sure, then don't do it. Relaxing is a big decision: Once you do it, there's no going back to natural unless you transition. The fact that you freaked out when you put the relaxer in your head suggests that you have quite a bit of apprehension. So, if I were you, I'd think on it a bit before I reapplied. Good thing you rinsed it out before anything drastic happened. Also, if you're going to live in dread of your hair falling out, then I'd say relaxing is definitely not worth it. Stress alone causes excess shedding. As a word of comfort, I've been relaxed for quite some time, and I've never experienced any baldness or breakage from it. My hair got to BSL before I trimmed up to APL for evenness, and I'm almost back at BSL again. I just don't want you to make a decision you're going to regret. I wish you the best :).

That happened the very first time I got a relaxer on my virgin hair. It was like it "didn't take." I don't remember what my mom did, but I just asked my sister and she said, "Nothing, she didn't relax it again immediately. She gave it some time."

She must have eventually relaxed it again, though....I would say just leave it alone and keep treating it like your natural hair. Since it has been chemically treated, you may need to boost your DC'ing and maybe do a protein treatment.

Thanks Muffin - you're right about my insecurity - deep down I have a feeling that I should probably let it be before I really do something to screw it up. I mean I big chopped down to nothing and now 5 months later I can kinda make a puff...

Solitude - I was thinking I should pick up some Aphogee to counteract any damage the relaxer has done...Thanks!
