so i had a conversation with a much older lady....(semi long story)

This is SO true MizAvalon...:lachen: Ray Ray knows everything except how to get off that stoop....(oh by the way I have braces too).

Girl, don't you know he can't get off that stoop because the MAN is holding him down? :lachen:

I'm going to send you a PM! :)

It reminds me of the conversation me and my mother had the other day about Good Hair vs Bad hair. She swears that kinky hair is "bad"... no matter how hard I tried to explain the fact that mentality is another way of keeping people with kinky hair feeling inferior and hair is hair there is no such thing as good or bad hair. All there is is healthy hair or damaged hair. But she wont listen... she just thinks i'm som revolutionary, LOL.

Oh, I've just about given up on talking about hair with older women. I just smile and nod politely. Same when people have the audacity to tell me I'm "messing up my face" with piercings, lol.

I love and respect older women, but I'm kind of with you on that one. One of my mom's friends greeted me when we went home to close on our house and said, "Looks like you put on some weight." :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

No hello.
No welcome home after nearly 3 years.
No hug.

I couldn't even go into the hair thing with her because I like to respect my elders...

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I had to vent...

I don't think they automatically have the right to be rude simply because they are older and have some experience. I hope I do not become that way.

LOL.. This thread made me laugh... I was in the bathrooom the other day and a lady (who has micros in that is murdering her hairline with a ak-47..lol) came in and said "I see your going natual...." I said yea... (why point out the obvious??... I bc'd 2 months ago!!! Do you see any relaxed hair lady?? <this is what I wanted to say) And as I was washing my hands... She reached over and grabbed my hair.. (She did it like a ninja.. I tell ya.. So I just grit my teeth) and she says:

Your hair is so much softer than it looks..
I said yea... I co-wash every day.. It really helped. (Yes I said co-wash..and when i saw on her face she had NO CLUE of what I was talking about I explained its meaning)
She goes: So you wet your hair everyday?????:blush: You Shouldn't do that honey.. its very drying to our hair...

UM HELLOOOOOO!!! DIDN'T YOU JUST GRAB MY HAIR AND SAID IT WAS SOFT? WHERE IS YOUR MENTAL CAPACITY?? CAN YOU ADD? < this is what I wanted to say...

(I said as nicely as possible) No it really isn't... when you are thirsty...do you reach for water? when you shampoo your hair and it gets that hard feeling...don't you put conditioner on your hair to make it soft again? Well thats what I do everyday and I skip the shampoo.... hence soft hair..

She shakes her head and says Well do what works for you... I like your hair though..BUT I couldn't do that everyday... and walked out the bathroom

Well I know you couldn't... looking at your hairline..:nono: LOL Sorry for the long post.. Venting...

lol i dont understand why people have such a hard time accepting that there isnt "good or bad" hair...its like some kind of blasphemy to say otherwise.

she actually started the whole conversation because she asked me how my hair grew out so fast from last year and what do i do. i dont know why people ask you stuff about u and then shake their head...:look:

:lachen::lachen::lachen:girl i woulda pulled a duck and weave. i value my personal space and live by the philosophy "noooo touchy". i probably wouldnt have even entertained her. just one look at her hairline woulda told me everything:perplexed

Few years ago my mom told me that washing and conditioning my hair 2-3 times a week would "kill" my hair. But now she wants me to do the same to her hair because now she wants her hair to be like mine. Go figure

I think I understand what people are saying about the washing everyday killing the hair, but they don't know what LHCF knows. These women who are saying this probably use drying shampoos that strip the heck out of the hair. So whether you put co in front of the word wash they probably only hear wash and instantly think dry tangled hair. They may not know how to wash correctly either, and may use too much shampoo, not focus on the scalp, piling the hair up and rubbing it, etc.

Then you have people who just want to sound like they know something you don't or want to put you down. So anything you say they say they couldn't do it.

Thats as bad as my mom, who is 74, who had my 5 year old's hair relaxed last year, telling me "Aw girl, that perm has worn off by now". If that is so, what's up with the two textures resting upon my daughters head?

Yup, they are set in their ways and you can't change it.

^^^^^^:yep: and so are the young people, cause they listening the old people:lachen:like my grandmother who relaxes her thin, fine hair from root to tip for 20 minutes, with SUPER:wallbash: !!! Some things, you just gotta keep to yaself.

...on sunday before church and she was like back in my day (insert 15 min. story here)....then we hit the relaxer subject and i explained i use lye because my hair thrives better on it and its much softer and she goes "well whats wrong with the $5 box relaxer and you must can take lye better then most people because nobody can use a lye perm and you have to use a super":perplexed:perplexed:perplexed when i did use box relaxers i had to use a super BUT since switching to Mizani i can use a regular. and she looks at my sisters hair and goes "well i can see her growth and she needs to relax every 4 weeks because your hair breaks off when you dont put that relaxer on there right away":nono::nono::nono: (we all know the proper answer to this one based on your own hair). but the one thing that really got me was when i said that i washed my hair everyday with conditioner and she immediately:nono: "thats not good at all, it'll dry your hair out and you can't do that it's been scientifically proven" :lachen::lachen::lachen:and i'm thinking well what scientist proved this cuz thats not true at all:ohwell:

Wow! She needs LHCF badly!:nono:

:lachen:

I did say to her..."That's not nice. You should at least say hello before you insult someone, Mrs. ****" I had by "bad baby" frown on and then hugged her.

We're back in the US now, and I saw her husband at my mom and dad's yesterday. I cringed, waiting to see her as well. She always says stuff like that.

You did well in this situation, I think.

:perplexed

My mum always wants to put the relaxer on my head from root to tip when she is helping me with my retouch - we always argue about that! So when I insist on putting it on the new growth only she shakes her head and says 'it won't come out nicely' :perplexed. In Zimbabwe at the hairdressers I remember them always putting it on root to tip and combing it HARD :nono:
