Look at all that hair. That is all broken sad hair. I was complaining about that sucky conditioner, well it ravaged my hair. I don't understand how a conditioner can cause so much damage.:nono: That's not all the hair I lost. That's just what a took a pic of.

I had tons of knots all over my head. Some I had to pick out with a safety pin and the others I had to cut out. My hair is APL in some places and past MBL in others.

I don't even know how to recover from this. It's still a hot crunchy mess! I'm thinking about cutting it all off.:cry2:IMG_20120812_163719.jpg

So sorry to read about your mishap. Just cut the damaged/tangled part and leave the rest alone. You can probably save/remoisturize the rest of your hair.

What conditioner did you put in your hair? Did you try soaking it in a moisturizing conditioner? I suggest Aubrey Organic Honey Suckle Rose (AO Hsr). You should take a step back from your hair and try to soften it; definitely do not detangle it dry? Are you relaxed or natural?

I'm relaxed. I used Silky Sexy Hair smoothing conditioner. I used it over night and it dreded my hay hair up. Even as I was air drying it was coming out. I don't know why that happened. It's broken all over.

Wow. Don't cut just yet. Can you clarify then use some uber delicious conditioner??

I'm so sorry for your setback. My hair was acting UP when I used some super crappy conditioner. I had knots breakage, and nastiness. I didn't wait at all.... I clarified then added loads of conditioner and oil underneath a plastic cap that I left in over night. The only things that helped me to get back on track was Giovanni 50/50, QB Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, and Original Moxie DC.

If I remember correctly I think she washed and used a moisture dc to undo the damage and it didnt help right??

Worst DC ever thread???

I am so sorry....did it have a lot of protein in it? I've heard that conditioners with lots of protein will do this.

Nothing has helped. I used Silicon Mix. I used Creme of Nature Moisture-Active Deep Conditioning Treatment and even Hello Hydration. I shampooed with Motions Moisture plus and took some of the hardness out, but my hair feels like straw.

I agree with the other ladies try slapping on a super moisturizing DC mixed with some oils n honey and leave it on overnight :( i hope it helps

Maybe the conditioner had too much protein in it. I did a protein treatment a few weeks back and it made my hair hard (it hasn't been acting right since that time). It made me realize that I'm probably protein sensitive.

Maybe you could try using moisturizing products that don't have any protein in them for awhile. Just don't cut it all off. You're understandably emotional but may be even more mad later if you cut it now.

using a tablespoon of salt mixed with a conditioner that has no protein in it will do the trick or you can add some drops of castile soap. but the salt should do it. i had tons of breakage, shedding, hardness, stiff hair, etc.... use oil and your fingers to detangle. it will take forever, but it's worth it. don't try to detangle with a comb or do too much styling. you may need to cut. i ended up cutting 3 inches. my hair is in so much better shape.

silk elements mega silk conditioner in the tan jar, copper lid. it has no protein in it. it is thick and creamy.

So sorry to hear about your hair loss. All I can say is, do not cut your hair! Never do anything drastic in frustration; you will regret it big time!

Now with all that healthy thick hair you have, yes you will make WL. I really don't recommend overnight conditioning except when doing a special rebuilding treatment that a member here posted a thread about years ago. Other than that, it's unnecessary and there is a such thing as overconditioning, so no more of that!

Hmm, I may have to try this myself. Can you explain how the salt helps?

:bighug: I don't think the shedding is that bad... and do hope you can get the moisture back in your hair soon. You will get to WSL.

this may sound weird but clarify or wash first then try a moisturizing dc. U need to get that bad product off your hair first.

Its blocking the other products from getting it.

June 1, 2012 marks the first day of my hair journey; started from me looking up the benefits of biotin vitamins. I googled information about the vitamin and came across a reply in a vitamin thread on the LHCF iPhone app. Then I became addicted, paid my little $7.00 and have learned so much from these women about damage reversal. My protein damage sounds just like what you're going through. I, unfortunately, went many months without doing anything about my hair loss (and I mean globs of hair each time I washed, blow dried, SWEPT!). Mine came from a keratin treatment and heat processing with no Moisture! What I've learned through my journey is that moisture is your best friend! I agree with all the ladies when they say moisturize! I smiled when I read one of the ladies said honey and oils in your conditioner because that's exactly what I was sitting under the dryer with as I read this post. I went from see through hair to thicker more resilient hair because I understood my damage needed moisture to repair itself. Good luck love... It's been 2.5 months since I did something about my damage. But there was also a time that I was at day 3. It may feel like forever to get it back to what you're used to, but it'll come. Have faith. :)

does that have protein in it at the top. it sounds like you have protein overload. I had to do a lot of deep conditioning with moroccan oil intense hydrating mask. it worked wonders.

Regarding the salt, I searched and found this response from a different thread.

this is the story of my life! i had a really bad experience with protein overload. i went to sleep with Aphogee 2 step in my hair, plus everything i owned(product) had protein in it. it seemed like nothing was working. some of the things that did help was mixing a tablespoon of salt with cup of Tresemme conditioner and let it sit for 15-20 mins. that helped to soften and break down the protein. after that i rinsed and detangled. another thing that could help is to put some castile soap in your conditioner to help open the cuticle too.

i couldn't go longer than 6 weeks for a touchup. the relaxer broke some of the protein down as well. but now i can't do use anything that has the word "treatment" on it, especially any protein treatment. the best thing that is working for me now is Suave Almond and Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner. every salon/brand name poo and conditioner i have didn't work. Aubrey has protein in it as well, just like Kenra, Joico, etc.... even things that have coconut oil in them will act as a protein.

since it is summer time now, you can use things with glycerin in them to help draw moisture in.

i just starting using Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Mist and Jojoba oil to seal. my hair is in love with it! it stays moisturized(soft and hydrated, not greasy oily) i also use Creme Of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo and the leave-in spray. i use Keracare Leave-in after i rinse the conditioner out and use CON Argan Leave-in. as another moisturizer, i like Hawaiian Silky 14n1 spray. i diluted it with distilled water. it is a little thicker, but since you are texlaxed, you make like it.

the Moisturizing Mist can be used daily and it is light enough to be used 2x daily if you need to.

oh i use the Suave Shampoo first then the CON to add softness. i apple the Suave conditioner and sit under the dryer for 15-30 mins. i roller set too. i don't mess with the blow dryer.

She already did that read the thread "worst dc ever" to get more info I cant link it on my phone

I don't have WL hair but I suffered from major breakage many years ago when I used a conditioner overnight. The conditioner probably had too much protein for my hair to handle. Now, I am so paranoid, I never sleep overnight with any conditioner on my head anymore. Go to a good hair salon, they will be able to steam your hair moisturise and remove the clumps.

Best,
Almond Eyes

It happened to me TONS of times ,i would just moisturize it and NOT wash it for a couple of days ,it's the same effect i have whenever i switch from natural products to cones and viceversa, also glycerin and propylene glycol dry my hair out .

Thanks ladies for all the suggestions. I will be trying the salt in the conditioner on my next wash. I have it in a bun for today. I'm going to leave it alone for now. I've already ripped through all the knots, which I shouldn't have done.

My hair has always really loved protein. I use Aphogee 2 minute weekly. I'm going to throw that conditioner out. In a couple days I will wash and dc and straighten and see what the damage really looks like.

think of it as a softner, like how salt soften water, or how it is used to tenderize meat. i had a bad protein overload experience. it helped so much. i also recommend to condition first and use a sulfate shampoo afterwards. the shampoo will help too.

she needs to stay away from anything that has rebuilding ingredients for awhile to get her hair back to normal.

I am sorry that you had that experience. However, looking at the picture of the hair you lost I do think you hair will be fine. I often lose that amount when I throughly detangle my hair before a press or braiding session. Based on the hair I loose when I am just finger combing it seems like a lot. Then I finish detangling and look at my whole head only to realize it wasn't as drastic as I felt it was. Matter of fact most of the time it necessary to make sure I don't loose much hair in the the coming steps.

I'd be careful on the ripping but when you get you hair moisturized just take a look at your hair over all and see if you lost as much as you think you did in the detangling moment.

I think your hair needs nourishment, not to be repeatedly washed in such a short time frame. I'd oil it up, make sure it's fully detangled and just let it rest in a bun a few days and then start a wash with your staples. Overnight dc usually causes me tangles as well. The moving around while you sleep + wet, weak hair + trapped shed hair = disaster. I wouldn't use the salt, condish combo because you've never used it. When you have a setback, or are about to, always go back to what you know and let your hair recover.
