SLS Question

I received the Jason's Pure Natural Restorative Biotin Shampoo from Klout.com as a perk. Now on the label it says:

- An advanced, all-natural shampoo that cleans and protects your hair
- No parabens, SLS or phthalates
- Combines natural biotin with vitamin B, ginseng and lavender extracts and more

But these are the ingredients: Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract*, Equisetum Arvense Leaf Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract*, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Amine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Citric Acid, Cocamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Sulfate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Alcohol*, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Coumarin, Fragrance (Parfum).

*Certified Organic Ingredient.

So is Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate the same as SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) or am I missing something? Also is Sodium Sulfate the same as SLS?

It's pretty far down the list. The drying shampoos I've used had it in the first few ingredients. It's not no sulfate but it is LOW sulfate.

No it's not the same thing. Chemicals have a very specific naming system. So a "sulfate" is not the same thing as a "sulfoacetate". I'm not a chemist, but I'm sure a lhcf member who's a chemistry major or a chemist can be more specific.

Sounds like they're trying to be slick to me, because the average consumer (not true hair gurus) don't really know what SLS is anyway.

I hear conflicting things about the list. Some ppl say the order matters as to how much is in there and others say it doesnt matter.

It's just a foaming agent because people like the foam...I guess it makes us feel like our hair is being cleansed. I learned this in chem not to long ago
