Slip but no moisture...or vice versa?

Ladies---have you used conditioners that offered amazing slip but provided no moisture? Or have you used conditioners that were moisturizing but had no slip?

Do you think that more slip = more moisture? I used to think this but I am slowly learning that this isn;t necessarily so.

Sometimes I use a conditioner that gives me slip but by the end of the day my hair seems hardly moisturized.

Have you come across any conditioners like that? If so, which ones?

Most recently it seems that many of the drugstore instant conditioners seem to be that way for me.

When you say 'slip' do you mean 'squeaky clean'? If so, you might be allowing the water to run too excessively over your hair after you've rinsed out the shampoo and conditioner. This strips your hair of its natural oils which give it moisture.

slip is when you put something into your hair and it leaves your hair slippery... tangles are easier to get out, you can run the comb through your hair without it ripping or breaking your hair because of friction...

It's definately the drugstore brands that have all of that slip with no mosture... I don't use them

Elasta Qp DPR-11 gives absolutely no slip if you use it right out of the jar, but it's really moisturizing. I put lots of water and olive oil in it to get slip.

pantene r&n daily oil moisturizer gives me really good slip, but i cant use it all the time because it'll weigh my hair down.

actually, i used some on my hair last night, wrapped it, and right now it seems hardly moisturized.

Sometimes with Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner, I get slip and moisture. Other times, I just get moisture but I'm ok with that.

I just got up on Trade Secret's 2-for-1 2 Liter sale today, so I hope I like it

BTW, daviine, I have noticed that some conditioners only give slip or moisture. Pantene Smooth and Sleek only gives slip (and a lot of it), so I usually use a real moisturizing conditioner beforehand.

Yeah, man. I had to get there before the rest of LHCF bought them up. [Might I add that these were the last two on the shelf and I got there at noon?] Now, hopefully I'll like it, otherwise, I'll be on the Haircare Exchange Board trying to pawn them.

Girl--I promise to goodness that I have been thinking about this for the last couple of days and have been formulating my post thread on it in my mind

I've noticed that conditioners that give Super-Slip really don't moisturize. I mean the hair feels awesome when you rinse and even while it's wet, but when it's dry--there's no moisture or suppleness. Here are my prime examples: Pantene R&N and Kenra Intensive Emollient.

I believe that in order for a conditioner to give that awesome slip like that it has to coat the hair strands more so than penetrate them and moisturize them. Even Shamboosie says that creme rinses/detanglers should be rinsed very well because their job is not to condition, but to detangle and in order to do it, they leave a coating and build-up on the hair.

One of my faves is Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner (not same as the above mentioned Kenra product) moisturizes my hair like nobody's business, but will only give slip if I rinse it out rather quickly after applying. Why? Because it hasn't had time to penetrate the strands. But it's fast penetrating and after having it on for about 4 minutes, the slip is gone (b/c it has penetrated)

I suppose that using a moisturizing leave-in is a good remedy for those of us that must have our slip conditioners all the time or from time to time.

And, I'm not saying that this holds true for all conditioners. Elucence Moisture Balancing has wonderful slip. IMO,it's a great moisturizer too

I'm so glad you brought this up--you are so observant. This is so true

This makes perfect sense. I am going to have to try out this theory.

I've lately gone back to using my beloved Biolage Leave-In Tonic and that stuff gives amazing slip. Conditioning Spray by Pantene has nothing on this b/c I'd always have re--comb and re-comb and re-comb to detangle. With Biolage, I detangle once and the "slip" keeps it that way. Looking at the ingredients, "cones" are the 2nd and 3rd ingredient: Amodimethicone & Cyclomethicone. I've noticed an amazing difference since I switched back to using the Biolage. So, my point is that if you're using a conditioner that's moisturizing but with no slip, give Biolage Leave-In Tonic a try!

Supergirl, you're absolutely right about these two conditioners. I find that they both give good slip and they both moisturize.

Daviine, you made a really great observation. Many conditioners out there really detangle the hair well, but hardly do you find one that does both. I think that "high end" or salon conditioners are the ones that are dual purpose.

Supergirl, I am going to have to disagree with you about the Kenra Intensive Emollient. This conditioner, for me, provides excellent slip and moisture. I can go 3 days (if I don't work out) off this conditioner with a nice, soft, moisturized head of hair. But, on the other hand, I have never tried the regular Kenra conditioner for comparison, didn't feel it was necessary after getting such nice results from the KIE.

NMFC,

I guess I finally found one that works for others and not for me--which is oh so rare
wink.gif
I do air dry my hair so in order for me to test a conditioner for it's moisturization properties (made that up
grin.gif
) --I'll use it last and not add any leave-ins or anything until my hair is completely dry. If a conditioner moisturizes my hair really well, then even once my hair has dried (with no leave-ins, oils, etc.) my hair will feel moisturized.
So when I did this test on the KIE and Pantene R&N, my hair dried dry. I did notice that the KIE doesn't really have any moisturizing ingredients, just lots of good emollients (hence it's name) like oils and butters which are things that sit on the strands rather than penetrate. But if you got good results--shoot you should! It's expensive enough! I still have some left and I'll definitely use it again--just with a good moisturizing leave-in
wink.gif

You know, I really liked the Smooth and Sleek by Pantene. After using the Elucence Moisture Balance though, I noticed that EMB left my hair soft without feeling coated, like with Pantene. I never noticed until EMB that Pantene's conditioner coat so much.

This is ideally the way that I would like to test my hair products but now that my hair is shorter, I really don't want to take the chance of my hair coming out jacked up since I can't throw it in a ponytail.

What "afterproducts" do you use on your hair to moisturize your hair after a conditioner has failed your "moisturization" test?

Well, either I'll rinse and condition again OR I'll add one of my moisturizers (jojoba oil, Profectiv Break Free, or Wave Nouveau Finishing Lotion)

ITA too! IMO Humecto is another conditioner that gives slip but not moisture. My fave moisturising conditoners are Jason sea kelp and Phytokarite, they are not cone-based and they do detangle.
