I felt sooooo bad the last time I got my relaxer y'all. I vowed that was it for stylists. When she was washing out the relaxer she tangled my hair sooo bad by piling it up and then it was so bad that she couldn't get a comb through and had to whip out the brush:eek: Then when she was finished she brushed it down with one of those hard bristle brushes and I didn't say a word.:(

Never again! Never again!:ohwell:

Now that I have learned healthy hair habits I stoppped going to the stylists all together!

I haven't been in a salon for over a year. And my hair is growing faster/thicker than ever. I like to keep my hair's fate in my own hands, literally.

MizaniMami I feel you!!!!!!!! BTW your hair is gorgeous!!!!
Yeah but I can't see me paying money ever again for someone to mess up my hair. I will always feel like they are not handling it with the same gentle care that I would. Plus the money I save I can go shopping!!!!!Thanks LHCF for teaching me how to take care of my hair:D

Yeah, I believe I'm done with stylists.

I wish that I could do everything necessary for my hair on my own, but I do not know how to relax my hair! I tried it once years ago, but it didn't even take effect. I am saving money by only going to her for my relaxer at the end of my stretches which are getting longer each time! ;)

I have! The last time I got a relaxer back in Dec 2002. She didn't use a protectant, she slapped the stuff on, and she didn't even bother to do a conditioning treatment AFTERWARDS, just put in a leave in and I said not one word!!! I ran home and treated my hair myself. Luckily, my hair didn't get damaged, but that was the last time for me. Ladies PLEASE speak up! It's your hair, I wish I had said something because when you don't, they don't learn and will continue their bad practices.

I went the salon about two years ago... and have not gone back since....
it was for a was set and style for my wedding.... The hair dresser is a friend of mine:eek: she was so ruff with my hair! The curling iron sent shivers down my spine.. I was viewing everything that went on in the salon and let me tell you guys... a lot of the women where walking around with badly damaged hair, bald spots, missing hair lines and much more:confused:  ....
Most of the women where eye balling my hair saying how thick it was and healthy... (Girls my hair could be healthier any who)

**** I never went back I have not let anyone touch my hair since for anything!!!!!! not even a ponytail!!!!

I have :(

She commented on how much my hair had grown since she last saw me and the she whipped out this huge brush and wrapped my hair from my roller set and I said not one word. She was brushing hard too. Part of me thinks that she was being harsh with my hair on purpose. I only go to her twice a year for relaxers because I cannot self relax. I was a little  after that, but hey I sat there and let her do it.

H3LL TO DA NAWL.... :lachen:

I don't go often anymore, only for touch-ups, but i always try to convey my thoughts as i am laughing...i'm sorta embarassed to just come out and say 'girl do this, or that...' :look:

Well since I started coming to this forum I decided that I wasn't going back to a stylist or relaxing again. My first hairdresser who did my hair for 5 years, completely MISSED OUT one of the affirm steps, the most important step; the 5in1. I didnt even know it existed until I looked up the relaxer system. This the salon that's tacked £30 into their prices over 2 years and has changed nothing. Then to make matters worse they'd always wrap or set it put me under a dryer for a million years, take me out, blowdry it some more (cos clearly it's not dry enough) then whip out some scissors to cut of as much as she pleased THEN get out the straighteners. THEN take my hard-begged-from-my-mum money. I thought a domincan blowout was something special til I read up on it and found out it was wat I was having everytime I went to the salon!!!

Suffice to say I stopped going there last May and changed to another salon where a white girl would do my hair but when I asked her to use oil on my hair before she striaghtened it (btw they used 5in1 here and blowdried it from wet so it wasnt SO bad) she said she was already using heat protectant, IT'S NO POINT USING A HEAT PROTECTANT IF I CAN SEE ALL THE MOISTURE EVAPORATING FROM MY HAIR!!! Then the black girl that works there, Mrs I-have-a-parting-sewn-to-my-head (some really bad polyester weave) is telling me the oil will burn it. err yeah If my hair was plastic. I already told my white girl that if someone hair does not look better than mine I dont want to hear what they have to say, this other stylist was a prime example. So yeah I let her drag them straighteners thru my hair without a lubricant and left p*ssed off.

I didnt feel comfortable telling my first stylist what to do with my hair because she's a big woman, her daughters a couple of years younger than me and she's a friend of my dad. So I just didnt go back. And as for that other girl, she was good but that no oil business was workin ma last nerve and Mrs Polyester was more than I could take

I have fine thin hair. I have been working so hard to get rid of damage and see through ends. Yet when I went for my retouch this week, I let the stylist process my hair bone straight. I was cringing inside the whole time and finally I did say yeah I think you should wash it out now. I'm praying it doesn't break off.

No, I haven't let a stylist abuse my hair since I've been a member here. However, I've only been on my hair journey since January 06; my last t/u was 1/12. Having said that, the stylist I have now is considerate and listens, though I only go to her for touch-ups anyway. But trust and believe, I've had some awful past experiences with heavy handed, borderline abusive hairdressers. I've kept my mouth closed and fumed silently on so many occasions, but I'd NEVER do that again. In some cases, the client believes the hairdresser knows best therefore we go against our better judgement/gut feelings and just leave them to it (I know I did). At the end of the day, so1913 is correct, it's OUR hair and OUR money so we really need to quit cringing, forget the embarrassement and object hair abuse when necessary.

I no longer go to a stylist. I like being in control of my own hair and my stylist was not gentle enough with my hair.

Darling, I hear ya! I've had a couple of stylists over the last year to talk about how badly my hair tangles. Well, you can't shampoo mid-back length hair by piling it on top of the head and expect it not to tangle. My hair doesn't tangle when I do it! I'm looking for someone that knows not to pile the hair when shampooing it. Then my stylist of the last 3 years will comb out my tangled wet hair (from her piling) with a small tooth comb. HELLO! I would really think they would no better.

I can't do my own relaxers, so I do go to the salon for relaxer service. It's up to me to find someone to get the job done without abusing my hair. I'll be looking. I challenge you to do the same!

I still go to stylists everynow and then (mainly for relaxers) but i forewarn them that i am NOT AFRAID TO WALK OUT!! Dripping hair and all.
