I was really pushing myself to make BSL by Sept 30 and I still may reach that goal, but that's not my focus anymore.

I have really bad ends because of hair color (I didn't take care of it) and refusing to trim my hair to meet a goal. At the end of

this month, I'm going to get a 1 inch trim maybe a little more and that will make over 5 inches I cut off in about 2 years (so i lost

almost a year of progress).

I cut off all my hair in July of 2005, so when I look at my siggy I can see I still have made progress.

But anyway, when I looked Silvergirl do a BC and start all over again it made me think that choosing healthy hair over length is so much better.

I have never been this length in my life, but I am defeating my mission if I worry about meeting a challenge then having healthy hair.

Has anyone else felt that pushing for the heath and not so much the length has made an overall difference in their hair?

an inch is not alot , you should still make it by November 30th.

I constantly trim my ends if they feel frizzy or ick , no matter if they are split or not. I may have been BSL by now - within the first year of hair journey I trimmed about 3 inches off. To me I rather healthy hair than split ends

exactly, its only hair right ;)

not only will it grow back, but it will grow back better and healthier than ever :)

girl boo, i had several inches taken off due to old color before Silvergirl did her BC.

i'm not happy about how the cut turned out... i'm not too keen on its shape. :perplexed BUT i'd rather have it shaped funny for a few months and be healthy, than have those recurring splits. a few inches will grow back in no time, plus it's hot out so nobody else knows my hair doesn't look "perfect" when it's pulled back in a puff/bun.

it's nice reaching your goal length, but even nicer when your hair is healthy AND long.

Yeah Plastic, I think I may push for a little later in the year and work on getting my hair back in shape.

I only have an inch of color left, but I waited to long to trim so I know I will have to get a little more off.

Sometimes I think it's fear, It's taken me so long to grow it and now all I push for is the length and now that has to change.

I admit that when I first was introduced to this board I became growth and length obsessed...I was in that mindset even after my BC. I mean constant length checks and trying to camouflage the damage that I had on my ends because I didn't want to cut. But within the last few months I've been focusing a lot more on health and my hair thanks me for it, lol. I think that hair will grow, it may take longer for some than others, but we'll get to our goal lengths eventually. I personally want to get to my goal length with a head full of healthy hair. And I've noticed that the better I take care of my hair, the faster it seems to grow or at least that's the impression that it seems to be making:grin:

So many members here are length obsessed. I'm not and don't think I will ever be. I would like to get to APL by next summer but if I'm not that's cool as long as my hair is healthy, ya know? I can't tell you how many times I've seen a head of APL or BSL hair that has like 3 inches that are see through...:nono:...length or not, it's not a good look.

Your hair is beautiful and even with a trim, you'll meet your goal very soon!

My hair got a lot thicker when I was trying to maintain healthy hair rather than gain length.

Healthy hair = length retention

I agree. Give me shorter full hair over long thin raggety looking hair anyday. I used to be afraid to cut and my feat actually made me have to cut more off when I finally would trim. I think its a balance between over trimming and under trimming that depends on your hair and the state of it. Everyone needs to find their balance.

Me too. I had the biggest set backs when I was obsessed with keeping every centimeter of length on my head. I always ended up cutting more after phases like that. When I started to relax and enjoy it settle down, I saw better length retention.

WOW!! This thread lead right to my question. The left side of my natural hair is slightly heat damaged. I was thinking out get my hair cut in layers to trim of the damage. What do you ladies think?

I completely understand where you are coming from. Hell no way am i cutting off 2 -3 inches of my hair at one time, i made it this far and when I get to my goal i will gladly take pics and then chop my hair and get back there, but nothing wrong with small trims inbetween right.

To tell you the truth .. if i was EL or NL ... i would start transitioning ... im not much of a transitioner so after like 6 months that ish would have to go. I could not bear to see all of my progress drop to the floor. So im saving my hair length (yes im length obsessed and scissors happy) and will transition when it's right for me if ever

i am back on the healthy hair thing as well. i reached my goal of midback length in april, but i cut my hair to bra strap length because my ends were thin and ragged.

My big thing right now above all else is moisture. I was stretching but after seeing all that breakage:nono:...it's not for me. So now I get my touch ups 8-10 weeks and that's it.

healthy hair practices=length and retention of that length.:yep:
