Hello !
Where I leave I can not find some silica by tablet form(or it will be too much expensive! )
But I have a lot of horsetail (the plant) and was wondering if is there anyone who has tried it by tea(infusing it)?

"very rich in natural silica/minerals, sulfur, amino acids (valine, paraginic acid, lucine, serine & citruline), contains high amounts of silicic acid, cysteine, flavone, glycosides & saponine."

TIA :)

Horsetail Tea

HTH! I just rediscovered a huge bottle I impulsively bought last year. Been taking one tablet nightly and my skin already has a kind of glow to it, I loved what it did to my skin. I think focusing on that benefit rather than hair/nail growth will keep me more consistent this time around.

I'm always stressed, it would be nice not to be broadcasting that fact with my skin. lol. defeats the purpose of being overwhelmed in private. I use the Vitacost NSI Silica

Though if I've read correctly, bamboo is a better source of silica than the horsetail herb. For future reference.

thank u Wanji !!!
mmh this post makes me worried http://www.longhaircareforum.com/5957215-post62.html
"Just thought you guys should know this as horsetail has nicotine in it:
Nicotine is a highly addictive substance that occurs naturally in tobacco. It is the active ingredient in tobacco smoke. It has a pungent odor and an acrid taste. Nicotine is defined as a poisonous, oily, pale yellow substance that turns brown upon exposure to air. In concentrated form, nicotine is used as a potent insecticide.
The amount of nicotine which occurs in tobacco leaves ranges from 2% to 7%.
Nicotine mimics the affects of acetylcholine (nerve signal transmitter) and it acts primarily on the autonomic nervous system. As such, it can be dangerous. Nicotine can cause respiratory failure and paralysis at doses of less than 50 mg. Smaller amounts can cause nausea, dizziness, lowered blood pressure, and heart palpitations.
A smoker inhales approximately 3mg of nicotine per cigarette. Even this small amount constricts blood vessels, increases the heart rate, and acts on the central nervous system. It also confers a feeling of well-being and alertness on the smoker.
Nicotine itself is not considered carcinogenic. However, it is likely that it contributes to the increased incidence of heart disease in smokers. It may also enhance the growth of tumors caused by carcinogens.
People who use tobacco products in any form will develop a physiological addiction to nicotine. Proven to increase the flow of dopamine, a neurotransmitter, nicotine creates pleasurable feelings in the user, along with a desire to maintain them. When nicotine levels in the blood drop, smokers will develop withdrawal symptoms within 48 to 72 hours after the last cigarette. Withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, difficulty sleeping, irritability, heart rate and blood pressure changes, changes in brain waves, and sleeping problems.
The symptoms are so unpleasant that most smokers will resume smoking in an effort to raise nicotine levels in the blood to the point where the symptoms subside.
Many people try nicotine-containing chewing gums and adhesive skin patches in an effort to quit smoking. The rate of nicotine absorption is slower in these methods than it is with smoking and it does not provide the same pleasurable sensations; gums and patches, however, can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.
It is important not to mix gums or patches with cigarettes, as this can lead to toxicity and nicotine overdose, which causes headache, palpitations, and nausea.
Other nicotine-delivery methods include nasal sprays and inhalers which more closely mimic the delivery and impact of nicotine as obtained by smoking.
Prolonged use of nicotine replacements, especially inhalers, is not recommended for more than a few months. Research has shown that extended use of these products could damage the cells lining the lungs and blood vessels.
"

but yes you are totally right about Bamboo !!!
"Bamboo extract is the richest known source of natural silica containing over 70% organic silica. This is more than 10 times the level as found in the widely used Horsetail plant (Equisetum) that contains about 5 - 7% silica. "

but I think the bamboo is only available by pill form. I'm gonna do more searches and updates.

I wondered about injesting horsetail tea. I brew it and use as a rinse. This makes up my mind not to injest it. I love drinking nettle tea, though.

Today, I start drinking horstail tea.
It's the only new thing i'm doing for my hair, so if I see a drastic change. It will be from this !
See you at end of the month :)

My hair skin nails vitamin has horsetail extract. I've also taken regular horsetail capsules in the past but it's been a few years. I didn't see drastic results btw so I don't think silica deficiency was ever my issue. The nicotine content in a capsule sized amount of horsetail is probably very small - I've never had a feeling of well being or alertness, or any other nicotine/smoker's type effect from it.

How was the tea? Did you notice any growth. Krystle~Hime

melissa-bee
okay, i'm usually a slow grower. if I get two centimeters of growth at end of december I will know it if works cause I don't take vitamin, no growth aid. and I won't change anything in my reggie besides this I think I have 80gr of plant at home.
Do you want to do it with me? it's worth the try and it costs nothing

I am actually taking diatamaceous earth at the moment and that contains 94% silica. I'm in the middle of a 30 day trial.

melissa-bee why does DE is so controversial ? I think I wanted to give it a try but haven't read the thread, seriously a too long thread and also because i've read several times that it helps to lose weight... and I need to gain :nono:

It doesn't seem that controversial to me. As long as you know, what you are doing. I actually first bought it a few months ago but did not feel like I had done enough research on it. Until recently I read some things online, and read the 2 huge threads here and additional ones else on it and decided to give it a 30 day trial.
It does different things to different people. I haven't lost any noticeable amounts of weight. One of the main effects for me currently is that it gives me loads of energy.
