I'm already taking One-A-Day Woman's Muli-Vitamin and wanted to incorporate a few more vitamins that help promote and grow healthy hair. I heard about Silica and wanted to find out if any of you ladies use this and if so, what is your opinion on it's uses? If you do not use this vitamin, what do you find works best to grow healthy hair?

Seriously, if you haven't given it a good run, you SHOULD! I'm not sold on too many supplements/vitamins touted here and there but Den1 found gold with this one! I have course patches of 4b hair that is now very soft and manageable. My 4A sections are barely wavy at all but very soft and silky looking. I also believe it has contributed to my faster rate of hair growth. I was taking a liquid (Eidon Silica) but have switched to Solaray Bamboo (which is supposed to be the bestest). In my 6 weeks of using it, I have noticed a very positive change to my hair.

I take Nioxin, Acerola, PotentSea (but will switch to Viviscal next month), Flax Seeds (Ground), Evening Primrose Oil, Biotin and JP+.

These are definite keepers in my regimen.
 
I've had a really hard time locating SIlica at drug stores. WHere do you ladies buy this from? I can't wait to try some!!!
 
They sell it mainly in health food stores. I have been eyeing Silica for months and may start to incorporate it into my vit regimen. I have slacked on all my vits in the past 3 months and plan to get back into them religiously now. I have really noticed that the vitamins in general increase my growth rate already (UltraNourishHair, Biotin, MSM)
 
I found it (Solaray) at Whole Foods (They had to special order it) for $14.99. I didn't want to pay that again so after searching on VitaNetOnline, I found it for $9.20 each (or $8.89 if you buy 5 or more :up:).

They seem to be a bit slow on shipping, I ordered on the 26th and haven't received it yet but they do have info re: shipping/delivery times so they are still within their time window.

You can buy other brands/types of silica but this is supposed to be the best source. The Eidon company doesn't specify where theirs is derived from but I received great results from it too.

First you have me racking up on Eqyss Mega Tek, now silica? lol
 
I drink horsetail tea every 2-3 days, and it contains high levels of silica. I've noticed an improvement in my hair, skin, and nails since taking it. I also notice that cuts & scars heal faster.

Ohhhhh I'm glad I picked this up today then!! Yeah you can definitely pick this up at a health food store....I got mine today at a health food market I stumbled upon (I just moved to this small boring town) called Mother Earth...Excellent place....Thanks for your reviews and raves ladies!!

VWVIXEN - You are hilarious!! But I have a question, you said that some of your sections were barely wavy..Does silica change the texture/pattern of your hair??

I'm so glad you found it!

It didn't really change the texture perse, but it did a GREAT job of softening it up! It may have loosened it a bit, but it's just really SOFT and silky feeling.
 
I take the bamboo silica as well and my nails and skin love it I dont even break out aroud period time:eek: and that in its self is a miracle:lachen: . I love it and will buy more when I run out. Oh I found it locally for 11.00.
 
I have a question. I tried to find Bamboo extract at the health food store, but they didn't have any. So I went and bought Silica gel. It has 420 mg of silica.
Does the bamboo extract have more than that ?
If so, I may need to change up.

I'm slowly starting to admit that I'm becoming a PJ!
 
Nevermind. I think I answered my own question.
I looked up Bamboo online and one brand said it was 600 mg of bamboo with 420 grams of silica. Looks like it's about the same.
Anyone have any bamboo with different gram amounts for silica?

That's good you found it locally but I'm such an internet addict that I order darn near everything off of the net...too lazy to go out looking for stuff:)
 
At one point, a lot of the ladies were using the Jarrow silica. Is that still working for y'all or is the bamboo silica better? The Jarrow formula claims to be the best at absorption.
 
Ok...After reading Nice & Wavy & Den1 thread I purchased the Solaray Bamboo last week and my order has arrived!!! Can't wait to see some results.

I'm slowly coming out of my shyness on the board and asking questions and I am SO GLAD that I am because you ladies are so awesome!! I am going to have to order some of the bamboo silica you ladies are talking about because the one I have right here is only 50mg per tablet and suggest taking one to three per day:mad: ...See, that's why I'm talking to ya'll!! :grin: I'm so embarrassed that I even bought this :( !!

i love silica! :love: my nails are always at least half an inch long, my skin is clear, and my hair is healthier. i use "futurebiotics silica" .

i get it from the vitamin shoppe. ;)
