I was talking to a friend of mine about her hair and going over my regimen with her which I think is pretty simple. First she tells me I do too much which everyone says. After all hair journey aren't for the faint of heart. The part that worried me though is herstylist advised her to stop using conditioner. She was told it weighs down her hair and is causing it to thin.

She only washes every two weeks and she definitely isn't overnight Dcing like I do so I thought that was some of the craziest advice I have ever heard. I told her it sounds like her strands might just be over moisturized and like she might just need protein but she said that a protein treatment was too much work.

So that made me wonder what crazy advice have you ladies received from SHS (and I don't mean scissor happy ;))

I got a sew-in weave once.

You couldn't tell me I wasn't fly. The stylist suggested that I not wash my hair more often than every two weeks. I'm not an expert, but after about a week, my scalp was on FIRE. I had that head-patting thing going on. My weave wearing days were short lived.

Maybe that's the standard advice on maintaining a weave, but I thought it was horrible advice.

So what did the stylist say? just shampoo and blow dry after? shampoo+leave in+blow dry? Is she natural or relaxed?

A friend who used to be a stylist(kitchen stylist) told me to go to her for trimming as she had growing hands and it all depended on the way she positioned her hands to cut, it made the hair grow :drunk:

Another friend told my best friend to get braids as they make the hair grow as they pull hair from the scalp  maybe she thinks our hair is like a doll's head with all the hair rolled up inside? lol

She doesn't use conditioner at all, or she only uses it on her washday?

I would wait and see how it turns out for her. I've heard the craziest regimens that ended up working for people, so I don't really doubt anything.

Yrs ago, I was told that I shouldn't wash my hair with braided extensions especially human hair. I used to have very bad scalp issues. I got braids after I big chopped and I couldn't take the how my scalp was feeling so I ran water using my shower head and was totally disgusted how dark the water was so I washed my hair.

Another was that washing every week is for "white" people only and we need "our" hair dirty to make our hair grow.

Cutting hair will grow it faster. Told to me after a bad haircut when I was in the fifth grade.

Leaving in the relaxer longer will give me longer straighter hair.

All of this information was given to me by my mother. She was the one to give me the lopsided hair cut also lol.
