Should you trim your nape area?

Doing it my way
I may be one of few, but I'm in the habit of trimming my nape (if needed) when and if I want to wear my hair up (bun, french roll, etc.). I have the funniest hairline -- it looks like a large upside down "U" going down the sides of my neck. To me it looks "raggedy" if I don't bother to shape it up. I'm 4a and it's thick. I find myself needing an "edge-up" at least every ten days the more often I wear my hair in a style when my neck is exposed. Lately, my nape line seems to be growing longer down my neck when it grows back in. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the frequent trimming.

Am I the only one who does this? Is it wrong to interfere with your natural hairline? I love wearing my hair in a bun because of the low maintenance, but what (if anything) should I do with my nape?

I know a lot of you ladies are natural, so I'm sure you're more concerned with healthy hair growth than the way it comes in, but any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. :look:

I usually trim the bits you see in the picture to make it more even but it seems to grow back really quickly. those 3 little lines really annoy me. but hey, most humans have em! i really dont think there is anything wrong with trimming the nape area. i thought of getting an undercut before, but it would only grow back anyway

if there is a solution out there i wanna know too!

I do it too...it bothers me and I don't feel like gooping it up to slick it down, so I cut it off or have the beautician trim it for me.

Mine is the same as well. But my stylist was edging me along with my trim so when I want to wear it up my hairline look crazy as heck. I just told her to stop edging me and just get trims.

For years I used to get my nape area edged up, because if I didn't it would look horrible. Then one day a friend of mine told me to just let it grow on out. I did and I'm surprised at how nice it looks.

Youre not the only one, i do it too b/c i think that it makes my hairstyles more neat. I also trim my sideburns too.

Yes I shave the back..

My mom has the same hairline but mines is bigger.. so I hack off at least half..
