Hi, ladies,
Finally, after 4 years, I have found a hairstylist who is into hair health, is knowledgeable about hair care, doesn't do a hard sell of products, and trims instead of cuts.
I took a chance on going to a J.C. Penny salon because I was so dissatisfied with the Deep Brilliance relaxer that was applied to my hair in a pricey salon. I figured that at least at J.C. Penny, there'd be more relaxer options. My appointment for a touchup was yesterday, and the experience was fabulous. My stylist actually sat down and TALKED to me about my hair goals, my hair history and chemicals I've used. She is studying to be a trichologist also and looked at my scalp and mentioned that on my left side I have a little discoloration that should be checked out and might be exacerbated by a strong chemical. She also encourages her clients to bring products THEY like and she will use them. She loves Elucence and she says that if requested, she will get Elucence relaxers and apply them (the preferred relaxer of choice in this particular J.C. Penny salon is Mizani sensitive scalp. No one there likes the Deep Brilliance relaxer, they say it's much too weak a formulation for 4a/b hair.) She also refuses to blow-dry hair, only does roller sets and doobies. My touchup was painless, she brushed out my curls, wrapped me, and I was good to go.
The problem is . . . she's leaving. She and her husband are splitting and she's moving out of state in September. She says that she will be going back and forth between her new home and Miami to accommodate her clients, but she's not sure what the schedule will be yet.
My question is - this was my first experience with her. I loved it, and she and I clicked, but should I just cut my losses now and start looking for another stylist? I don't want to get my hair 'hooked' on her care and then have it yanked away from me. On the other hand, she is really, really good, and my hair could benefit greatly, even in those few months. I suppose I don't know whether to choose limited time with a great stylist or going hunting for a stylist who will be here for awhile. Advice, please?
OE
