Should I or not?

Hello all...
I am considering a curl perm---a dry "Jheri" curl. Should I do it? Has anyone had this and if so, how did you maintain it? Is it worth it?
Any and all information that you are willing to provide--the good, the bad, and the ugly---will be appreciated.
thanks,
foster

Now, what's the difference between this and just letting your hair air dry with some activator (while scrunching)? Seriously...

My hair has NO definition of a curl...I guess I am 4z.
I really want that curl look but I also want to be versitile and go straight on a whim. BUT, I do not want that drippy goo everywhere...***sigh***
I am ***thinking*** that the dry curl is my solution but I want all the feedback that I can get so I can make a conclusion.
Any suggestions?!?!?!
Please help!!!!

Hi Foster,

I wore a curl perm for almost 10 years, and for the most part, I liked. If I didn't have a hairdresser who kept cutting my new growth off everytime I got a touch up, I would have had really long hair.

You can wear it dry sometimes, but not for longer than a day, if you don't want to experience breakage. Sometimes I got tired of the constant care I had to give my hair, but now with a relaxer, I have to do the same thing! Caring for my relaxer is like caring for my curl perm.

I know a lot of people who got tremendous growth with it. I had to cut all my hair off when I wanted to get rid of it, my hairdresser told me that was the only way. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif Perhaps when you get tired of it, you can transition out of it. I would ask the hairdresser how to grow it out, if possible.

Good luck! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is how i feel right now... /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

and this is just to name a few...
so pebbles, are you saying that to maintain a curl perm is MORE of a hassle than a reg. perm or is it about the same?
....i am still pondering...

also,what brand did you use?

Hmmm, honestly the curl perm wasn't a whole lot of hassle; just put my lotion on in the morning and go. At that time, I was washing my hair once every two weeks. My hairdresser told me that I shouldn't be washing it too much. I had the Wave Nouveau, so it was pretty easy. Because I wash every 3 days now and I deep condition all the time, it's more work now. What is your hair care regime now? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

oh yeah, that's another question that i had.
my impression of folks wearing the curl was that they washed their hair once every 3-4 months...is this true?!?!!? or am i just making this up? i at times conditioner wash daily or at least every other day--wash n go but i have no style. i just put on a cap on go. that's why i want something different. would i have to sacrifice daily rinsing if i get the curl perm? my hair dresser tried to get me to get the wave nouveau but again, the people that i see wearing this locally, their hair is more of a stringy type style...i want more of a curl and also, when i say dry perm, i mean the hair looks and feels dry and that is how it is supposed to turn out. i seen a box in salley's i think and the hair on the box looked maybe 3a/3bish and it was dry...i think it was luster silks' dry curl perm. but i know how pictures can be deceiving so i wanted 1st hand expericences.
sorry for the many errors.
thanks for the response,
keep them rolling

i dont know what a curly perm is but why not try a texturizer. you can have your hair curly and if you want you can make it straight. or is the curly perm the same thing? God bless you all.

Exactly. I remember my curly perm days (even the dry curly perms) as not being that good. I mean, you did not want to wash it too much because your hair would tend to frizz up after washing. Plus, frequent blowdrying to make the dry curl straight caused me significant breakage.

Sorry it took me so long to respond Foster. /images/graemlins/blush.gif
Perhaps you could do daily rinses with your hair, but when I had it, my hairdresser told me that I should not wet it all the time. In truth, on the few occasions that I washed it myself, it didn't come out like it did when I went to the salon. /images/graemlins/look.gif
