Ladies, you know when you wash your hair in the shower or sink and lean your head forward and let the water wash over it as you look up at it? Well, before I even touch it, I notice a small knot/ball of hair come out each time. Shedding doesn't usually happen in a small knot/ball, does it? Has anyone had this happen? What could it be????? Help. *desperate look* It's in the top/middle part of my head and it doesn't happen anywhere else. What's going on??????

I get that all the time, It used to freak me out years ago, but if its a little ball of tangled together hair here and there, its normal (at least it is for me being natural) its like a tangle that didnt come all the way out before. , and especially when i havent combed all the way through my hair for a couple days or so, actually i dont know what it is, but i know the amount to expect , if i see huge clumps then im worrried, other than that those little knotted balls are normal and happen to me often. Is your hair curly or natural? I cant even remember if anything like that happened to me while i was relaxed or not now.

if its happening often and only in one spot, then i would look further into it. if not dont worry.

Thanks for answering this, Irresistable. I'm relaxed and this has never happened before. I wonder...could it be the hairtopia? I don't remember this happening prior to the Hairtopia...

ok if your using a new product, what is hairtopia? sorry havent been around lately , dont know what that is.

but if you have tried something new and it started after, eliminate it and stop using it and see if it stops.

is it coming from the ends? do you need a trim? are you stretching your touch up longer than usual? girl im just shooting off questions trying to figure this out....cause if this isnt normal for you , like it is me, then you gotta get to the bottom of it.

This happens to me all the time when I am due for a touch up. It is nothing but hair that has shed and comes out in a little ball. Mine is never hairs that are broken off but always long strands.

This happens to me too from time to time. I try my best to gently undue it before I resort to snipping... Usually I dont have to snip though. But it used to  me out to at first.

 This happened to me when I washed my hair Saturday! I felt a clump slip down my leg! I didn't even comb or detangle my hair yet! I try not to worry about it since I'm transitioning to natural and have almost 7 months of new growth!

I've had this happen before too... I don't know why it happened... but unless its coming out like that... several clumps at a time, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I always wash my hair in the shower, but I never lean my head forward. IMO, it makes it more difficult to detangle the hair. Have you tried washing your hair in the shower and leaning your head back?

Well, I've read all your responses and to sum things up:

I don't lean back in the shower because leaning forward allows me to watch the amount of shedding during the rinse. Like I told irresistable, this has never happened to me prior to the Hairtopia (vitamins) that I'm taking. I did recently only stretch my relaxer to 9 weeks but due to shedding/breakage, relaxed. But to my dismay, this mini hairball thingy comes out with every wash like Poohbear said, even before I detangle or even touch it. Water simply rinses the hair ball out! I'd hate to think it was the hairtopia since I *just* got a new order. *sigh* Does anyone know how long it takes for vitamins to get out of your system? I wonder if one day would be enough to see a difference?

I don't know if it's coming from the middle to end of the strand but it's longer strands in a little ball. I don't know if I need a trim but even when I did in the past, this didn't happen. I'm no longer stretching--just touched up a week ago. Please don't say it's my beloved Hairtopia (these are vitamins, by the way, they're at Hairboutique.com. )

It alarmed me, I'll tell you THAT much! I think I actually jumped! 7 months? My hair broke when I touched it after 2.5--how on EARTH do you do it??? Even conditioner washing daily didn't save me!

When I'm in the shower, I detangle my hair in two sections (one on each side) with my Jilbere Shower Comb. When I'm out of the shower, I detangle my hair in 4 sections with my K-Cutter Comb. Each time I detangle my hair, I make sure my hair is soaking wet! ;) I also take my time in picking out the kinks. It's not too hard for me to detangle because my hair is fine textured and not extremely thick. ;)

But...but...the breaking hairs! Don't you have any??? *looks confused* I loved the thick, wavy roots of being 9 weeks post relaxer but my hair just went schizo on me. The breaking! ugh. How on earth do you combat that??

I don't know if this will help but try using some Aubrey's GPB before giving up your vits. I can't say much for the clump of hair you lost. Try not worry if you don't have clumps coming out now. I do a pre shampoo treatment before I wash so I try to lightly detangle then if its been awhile since I combed and again after rinsing out my conditioner. I have used the Aubrey's GPB before and after shampooing and it has always put a halt to my shedding issues.

HTH

I only have breakage if I manipulate my hair when it's dry and unmoisturized....a big no-no! I really don't have a lot of breakage when my hair is wet, I mostly have shedding. When I do get a lil breakage from wet hair, I know it's from my hair being two different textures so I can't help that unless I cut my relaxed ends off.
Also, I seldom wear my hair down or comb my hair anymore; it's mainly in a protective style now. When I wear a bun, it stays in that bun until my next wash day. Do you wear protective styles??? If you do wear a protective style like a bun, braid, or ponytail, make sure it's not too tight.
To combat breakage, always moisturize your hair first before combing or manipulating your hair. HTH!

Girrrrlllllllllllllllllll, that's one of the many things i've slapped in my hair in the last week! Nothing is helping it right now. I'm wondering though...it REALLY broke when I put that Emergencee in it. Could it just be drowning in protein? Eeek!

Maybe the fact that you're transitioning is key for you in being a little more laxed about the breakage that you may see. Since I'm not transitioning, breakage is a bit more alarming to me. I did try to do as much moisturizing as possible, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning. I just have a hard time finding what my best moisturizer is at any given point in time. I didn't have scurl at the time but maybe, just Maaaayyyybeee that would have helped. Anyhoo, I'll try it again. I'll be ready come 9 weeks post this time. *AIMING s-curl at my roots***

It's probably tangles...
Have you tried to detangle your hair before washing?
What about a pretreatment with Motions CPR & Garlic Oil or ORS Mayonnaise with Garilic Oil; A basic Garlic Conditioner; or your favorite conditioner mixted with Cinnamon & Garlic Oils???
Either way, Garlic & Cinnamon are supposed to help stop breakage & excess shedding... (Apply to just the roots after de-tangling & let set for 30 minutes or less....)
