Shea butter:Yellow or white...?

Which one is unrefined and which one is refined?

I have been using one that my mom bought from one of the African vendors on 125th St. (in Harlem), but when I really been looking at another vendor's prod, it was Yellow....SO which one is processed and which one is not...

I have a jar of Ultra Steamed Refined Shea Butter and it is white and slightly odorless.

Thanks! So I will always be on the lookout for yellow... It was weird b/c the one my mom uses is yellow, and I thought that she bought it from the same person...??? Well, lol, dont mean to ramble, but Thankies....

The yellow should be the purest. (Unless of course you get it in a jar and there are yellow dyes and chemicals you can't pronounce.)

yeah, I don't like this refined stuff. I never used it.

The place I bought it from told me later that what I should have gotten was the unrefined because it has the creamy texture I was expecting.

I know I have found some that vary in color--but most are kinda yellow and creamy. I bought one that was gray! And smelled horrible.

I order from this site, they are quick w/ shipping and the product is always great. It has the kinda 'nutty' scent to it that most have.

A friend of from ghana told me white is pure and yellow has palm kernal oil in it which makes it more mosturizing...

The unrefined shea butter I have is beige. It has a hint of tan. And I bought it from an African shop. It wasn't in a jar, they had to scoop it for me and put it in a bag.

I got mine from there too. I don't use it too much, but thats because I'm not exactly keen on the smell. Its smokey but a bit too much for me. but I do like to mix it with other stuff occasionally because its a beautiful texture. (especially whipped with jojoba oil and so EO's).

You can get the sample size which is 1lb thats under 7 bucks, which I think is really super reasonable.
