Is anyone mixing their shea in a blender? I am about to make me some Shealoe to twist my hair tomorrow. I have an 8 oz tub. Our hand mixer seems to have walked and the whisk just doesn't cut it. All we have left is the blender so can I use that? how much shea to aloe should I mix as well.

I am extremley tired cause I just got off work and I have to go back tomorrow so speedy responses are appreciated.

you can try to rub a big glob of it in your hands to soften it, scrap it into a glass bowl and add your aloe to it and mix it with something strong & straight( I use a bamboo chopstick to mix my items). this may be a bit messy, but maybe that will help. good luck

it turns our creamy, but I added a lot of stuff to it (i mixed it for my son's eczema) I used aloe vera jelly, olive oil, vitamin e oil ( i can't remember the last item). but i had to mix it for like 3-5 minutes. at first I started out using the bamboo chop stick, then I used a plastic spoon to mash our any lumps, and then I used the bamboo chopstick to really whip it up good!! It came out great and I added more oils until I got the consistency that I wanted. Mixing it will be a little hard at first, that is why you have to soften it in your hands before you add it to the bowl. I then used a cake spatula to transfer the mixture to a jar. Good luck. BTW, the mixture didn't separate after I added it to the jar. I plan on making a second batch for him tomorrow, my little concoction was WONDERFUL!!

Well that's going to have to do it then. I don't have a bamboo stick. Will a soon work, or what else can I use that maybe in the kitchen?

SOMETHING STRONG AND STRAIGHT-MAYBE a meat thermometer, a shishkabob thingy, a bbq skewer, the end of a strong rattail comb or perm brush...something like that...a ballpoint pen...if you are going to mix a lot of things, you should probably invest in some bamboo chopsticks. (i use them to mix coffee, instant koolaid, tea and my concoctions) they cost $3 for 6 or 8 of them in my area and they are very nice looking (different styles and designs) and very, very sturdy.

oh yeah, a spoon would do just fine. you would just have to mash it as you mix it, and you can just mix it like you are mixing anything else. I am sure you will do fine with a spoon. You have to use a spoon to get it going anyway.

Ok where do you get the bamboo sticks from? I'm always going to mix, especially my shea butter. Thanks so much for all your help.

I get them from the asian market in my area. If you would like, i can mail you some, just pay cost plus shipping and tell me your favorite colors or something that you like (flowers, cats, etc) so that I can see if they have that particular design. I will let you know the cost of them (the good ones) if you are interested. They should fit into an envelope, so the shipping wouldn't be no more than $2. Let me know.

or, pm me your address and I will send you one of mine so that you can have one and then if you like it you can let me know or look for them. pm me your address and i will stick one in an envelope and mail it to you.

Do you mind heating the shea butter a bit to make it easier to mix? I warmed my shea butter in the microwave until it softened then added aloe vera gel, coconut oil, etc. The shea butter wasn't heated enough to be hot, but it was partially melted. My mix was smooth & creamy; I simply stirred it with a spoon.

No divine I don't mind. i don't actually microwave my shea cause I thought it lost some of the good stuff. But I do microwave water and stick my shea tub in the water until it completly melts and I whipped it with a whisk once and it wasn't as creamy as a hand mixer. Of course I didn't whisk for five minutes straight.
