She said that it works for anybodys hair relaxed or natural. She said take about 4oz of Lemon or Lime juice "she uses lime" pour it over you hair and scalp. Let it sit for about the time it takes to smoke a cig. But I don't smoke so I'm assuming 3-5 min. Then rinse with cool water. Do not condition just style as usual. She said do this only once a month. I asked her what does this do and she said it's for growth! So I said thanks for the info. and she said thank me when you are swinging your hair from said to side! By the way her dreads are to her butt.

I really do need to become a chemist or something, because I want to know what exactly it is in limes that would do that.
hmmn
Thanks for the tip!

hmmm... this sounds pretty much like a regular "acid" rinse...(like an apple cider vinegar rinse.) The low pH helps close and seal the cuticles. This inturn enhances the shine in your hair.:yep:

I don't know about it actually growing your hair though.:ohwell: Not to be the voice of dissent:lol: , but it isn't uncommon for dreads to grow "to your butt" or longer:) . . . dreadlocks are unique in that they do not represent true "root to ends" length. They are the accumulation of shed, broken, and growing hairs matted together and this is how they are able to grow to amazing lengths.:) Just throwing that out there.

That is 100% true, Sistaslick. I had dreads for 4 years, my daughter still has them (going on 6 years) and dreads will grow without needing a bunch of assistance. My hair was bra strap, and so is my daughters (she's still growing so it's funny to see her how her dreads appear to stay at brastrap as she keeps getting taller).

Moisture and tension from twisting too tight are really the only growth related concerns you have when maintaining dreads. After that, you can do almost anything, or nothing. The same does not apply to loose hair, whether it's natural or relaxed.

One more thing, usually when wearing dreads you don't condition because you don't want to hair to soften and detangle. Dreads are tangled hair and you actually want them to becomre more tangled - which is what happens as the dreads tighten. Again, this philosophy does not apply to loose natural or relaxed hair.

That's the same thing I thought as I read it.

I will have to pass on this one. My dad used those beat up looking oranges they sell for $1 at the Asian grocer, on my dog's leg and the hair never grew back. It's a Haitian remedy for healing tight muscles. Anyway, anything in the lime, orange, lemon family makes me leary.

So does this mean that an acid rinse should be used after conditioning? I mean since it seals the cuticle and all? Does the avc also clearify?

I totally agree with everything said:

  I dont know why but I starting busting up when I read that

And I'm sorry but I SERIOUSLY doubt pouring lemon juice on your hair once a month will make it grow. I'll be willing to BET it! Clarify maybe, grow no.

Yeah, ACV can also be used to clarify as well.

Girl, this is a good question. I'm still trying to figure this out myself.:D I know that warm water and shampoo together open and raise the cuticles, and both the apple cider vinegar and conditioners work by sealing the cuticle. The ACV probably seals more so than the conditioner because its typically a lower pH. This explains the the high shine and awesome "detangability":lol:you get from these rinses. The cuticles are so smooth that they don't rough up against each other and tangle- and the hair can reflect light b/c the cuticles are so tight and flat. At the right concentration, combs glide through! Finishing up with a conditioner seems to be ideal b/c conditioner protects the cuticle by leaving a nice protective coating on it. Rinsing with cold water also closes the cuticles, but ACV is a lot more potent. I'm still experimenting with these rinses.

I've done an ACV rinse only once, and I did it after the shampoo and before the conditioner. Some people do it as the final rinse and I am going to try that method as well to see if there is a big difference. The only thing is the ACV smells so strong:confused: ... I wouldn't want that smell lingering on my hair in a final rinse.:ohwell:

Well tryin lemon on my face made it dry and crusty; and i would never use it on my relaxed hair. dreads r different anyway. not knockin u back or nuffin, but i couldn't do this - if it aids growth cant it just be used on tha scalp?

It's okay, just thinking about it makes me laugh :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:
But, it worked! My dog has been running marathons since then.

I was thinking just that. I said this last year in this forum and almost got stoned for it.

whaaat! oh lawd :ohwell:

Yeah, it was the last sentence of the first post that made the light bulb go off about the issue. Well, hopefully they'll hold off the stones and give the truth a chance this go 'round.:D :lachen:

i pour a mix of lemon juice and water over my hair as a final rinse & leave it on too. it seems to help combat the hard water. doubtful abt any extra growth stimulation from it tho'.

i've heard drinking lemon water makes your hair grow! It is obviously Also very good for internal health
I think it was Sylver2 who has success drinking lemon water and hair growth.

As I mentioned on another thread, although lemons (limes too) are acidic, they become alkaline once inside of the body (that's why it is so good to put some in your drinking water). When the body is alkaline, then the body and hair is healthier, so I can see how drinking lemon water helps hair health, thus hair growth. There is a lot of information about this.

Pouring lemon juice over the hair and scalp means it is still acidic and it too reminds me of an ACV rinse.

I did see an Indian hair growth recipe recently with the combo of coconut oil and lemon juice ( not the coconut milk and lime we know about) poured over the hair to stimulate growth.
