I've had folks feel for tracks, but now that I'm transitioning most people stiil brush my hair with their hands. Depending on who it is I MIGHT let them do it ONCE, but thats it. They always follow with, " How did you make your hair wavy like that?" When I tell them I stop relaxing they either snicker or scowl. I don't get it.

I'm glad you put her in her place. A lot of white women really do believe that black women can't grow their hair long, and are dumbfounded when they do see one with long hair.

i know what you mean i knew a white girl who was in SHOCK b/c of my hair length and what was funny is she had just cut hers so it was shorter than mines.

Girl thats hilarious. But for real, it sounds like your friends were hating. I have never had real friends not give me a comliment on my hair if it was the bomb (even if I said so myself!). Thats what real friends do, encourage each other. I hate to say it but they probably got together and talked about you later on that night. Jealousy is a mother. I'm sure your hair was really beautiful. Post us a pic so we can oogle at it and give you some props!

ETA: Now that I think about it, when I was relaxed and my hair was bra strap, I don't recall anybody ever doing the weave test on me. Thats so wierd. I am sure that I would have been like Cantbecopied and been standing there in shock. People have a lot of nerve. Thats just like going up to somebody who you suspect has a boob job and coppin a feel!

I know it. And, that bothers me because I want for my sister what I want for myself. If I see someone making progress with something that is important to them, I am happy for that person and I will tell them so. It was almost as though my one friend just was so shocked that she couldn't hold in her shock but my other friends' were standing there like, "damn, it is growing! But I am not going to give her the satisfaction of KNOWING I think so!". lol.

Thanks Bluefolli. I am letting it go. I mean, honestly, if my friends feel pain or discomfort now with my hair at armpit length, what are they going to do when I get to brastrap? I cannot hold their hands through this process. They are going to have to grow the hell up.

If it comes up again, I suppose I will. She wears the trillions (ty-zillions) braids and her hairline is receding badly. I tried to tell her six months ago to be careful with that but she was offended.

The girl who did it was checking for weave which all she had to do was just ask you. The other friends with their fake smiles was JEALOUS. This comes along with the territory of having long beautiful hair and now that you have that first episode out of the way next time you will be ready .
I tell people that reach for my hair that I don't like people playing in my hair but like you that first time I was in shock .

Now that I think about it, I have had a similar experience happen to me. I use to wear braids for years. When I finally took them out and got a relaxer, my hair looked really pretty (it wasn't long... it was just soft, pretty, neck length hair). When my friend saw my hair, she said my hair looked nice, then put her finger in my hair and ran it down my scalp. I knew she what she was checking for. I didn't say anything tough.

A few months later, while I was watching TV with my boyfriend at the time whom I just started dating, all of a sudden he started running his fingers through random spots in my hair. I was like, "what are you doing?" He said, "checking for tracks!"

Why is it that people think when a black woman has long hair or even pretty, soft hair that is not necessarily long, that it's automatically weave? That s%*t makes me sick!

The only person allowed to pull/tug on my hair is my man in certain situations However, I wish a sista would pull on my hair KNOWING good and well I am trying to grow it out. Some of yall are good. I'm not a violent person, but when it comes to my hair...KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF MY HEAD!!! That is so rude. Some people have no home training.

*lol* I'm not even g'on lie Sareca...when she started pulling it, I IMMEDIATELY thought of LHCF and thought to myself..."WOW....this is an LHCF MILESTONE!" Then she kept on and I started picturing my ends getting caught in her acrylics or some hangnails or something and I started cringing...

I already have hair anorexia as it is and cannot tell how much progress I am making without comparing photos, so, for someone who has known me for 10 years and who has talked about my hair BEHIND MY BACK for 6 of those years, to react that way was both shocking AND weird.

BUT, adding my four other staring and speechless girlfriends, it became apparent that I had finally made some noticeable progress and it was GOOD progress and my friends were MAD about it!

Y in the world would she pull on your hair like that!! And it seems to me like your hair was a topic amongst your friends,and she was the onli one bold enough to touch it, or better yet, PULLED it....

If ppl talk about your hair, u know ur doing something right (or wrong) but since ur an LHCFer we know it good!
