She gave me streaks instead of highlights...

So I recently became natural (relaxer free) after transitioning for over a year and decided to treat myself to highlights. I wanted a sort of Stacey Dash/Rachel True color...so I went to a salon that was referred to me by a good friend to have it done. Before scheduling my appointment I went in for a consulation-brought pictures, etc.

As she was doing it I sensed that there wasn't enough foil wrapper in the back of my head for highlights and asked her will it be enough and she said yes....well to make a long story short when she was done she gave me a mirror and in the back there are maybe 10 pea sized blond spots (very streaky-not blendable highlights at all!) and in the front it's the same but a bit more highlights.

I didn't say anything because I was just tired and didn't feel like going through it in front of her customers. I left her a voice message today saying that I wanted to speak with her. Question. Should I have her fix it (or someone else) or should I just put a rinse in it to cover these gold streaks and give it up...so frustrated :perplexed

Talk to her 1st to see what she can do for you.. As far as a rinse I am not sure if that will help or not.. To be honest can this be fixed if she does anything else wouldn't this be over doing it to your hair color wise..

Definitely speak to her and let her know what you were expecting. Ask her is there a safe way to get the desired results. Shell probably tell you to wait a few weeks though. I wouldn't play with color and leave it to a pro.

ETA: If you do a rinse to tone down the color (which my settle on its own in a few days), then you may skew the results of any corrective work done afterwards.

I'd speak to both her and the salon owner to make the owner aware of the situation. If the person that originally highlighted you is not capable of fixing the problem then they can either have an experienced colorist fix it or refund your money.

Hey my local friend, where did you go?

I also had a color mishap which had corrected at a different salon in Oradell. PM me if you want to talk off thread.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The actual owner of the salon did my hair. I called and left her a message-she returned my call but I missed it. I haven't called her back because I am so non-confrontational! I just don't want to be bothered. But I need to call her to give her a chance to fix it.

I went to a new small salon called Indulge on Engle Street in Englewood.

OP I had a similar experience when I got my natural hair colored last August 2010 at an Aveda hair salon. I wanted caramel hi-lights in my hair and the base hair or the rest of my hair color to be lifted 4 shades in a lighter brown.

My base hair color came out so dark I could not tell it was lighter unless I was in sunlight. The hi-lighted color was a dark blond, it contrasted so much with the rest of my hair that it stood out too much for me.

I told him before I left that I was not too comfortable with the contrast and he told me that if I wanted the hi-lights to blend more with the rest of my hair to give him a call and he will do it, no extra charge.

I called him the next day scheduled another appointment for the end of the week to get him to take the blond color down to blend with the rest of my hair, he used the base color that was in the rest of my hair as a semi permenant rinse to cover all of the blond hi-lights and blended the color so that there was not such a large contrast.

He said it would wash out in a few weeks but the color has not completely come out and it is still the warm reddish-brown color that I wanted in the first place. The base color got lighter to where you can tell the difference between my original soft black.

I liked it so much that I kept the original hi-lights and got the 4 1/2 inches of new growth colored to the match the base color in Jun 2011. I said all of this to say she should fix it for free. I hope what ever you do you like the end results. Good Luck.
